PrepXtra Rewind: La Salle coach Russell Gordon and QB Austin Wallis. Plus, the Scouting Guru breaks down the Serra and two-minute drills

La Salle coach Russell Gordon, “We feel like we can play with anyone in the San Gabriel Valley.”

Opening: La Salle coach Russell Gordon and quarterback Austin Wallis. The Lancers are 6-0 after winning one game in two previous seasons. Gordon’s thinking big, hoping to schedule the area’s best next season, and that includes anyone, including Monrovia, St. Francis, Muir or even some of our heavyweights on the East side.

18:30 mark: The Scouting Guru joins us to talk about the Serra League, plus two-minute drills on Bishop Amat-Alemany, Bonita-West Covina, South Hills-Charter Oak and Gladstone Duarte. In the segment Aram tells you why Bishop Amat and Charter Oak are so much better than everyone else, and I tell you why El Monte should let QB Brandon Martinez chase every record imaginable.

Steve brought up some valid points! Amat has yet to win a close game on the road..I don’t know if Friday will be any different..These two teams match up pretty evenly…Alemany holds a slight edge on offense while Amat holds it on defense..Special teams is pretty much even,Both teams have players who can take it to the house at any given time..Ultimately the game could be decided on the last remaining factor which is the kicking game..(Advantage Amat)…One thing is for sure..There will be no blowout!! Coach Hags if you’re reading this…Don’t get burned on a Hailmary pass towards the end of the game like you did 2 years ago..If you’re facing a similar situation or a 3rd & long(30 or more yards) Don’t hesitate to use Joseph Cook on defense..At 6″5 he should be able to win any type of jumpball or a last minute homerun pass by the warriors…Koa Haynes will be the key to the game..He absolutely needs to be smart & expose the Linebackers..Throw short passes & run with the ball everytime you cant find a receiver open…Alemany strengths on defense are their DB’s! Keep sending them on deep routes to cover recievers this way you can gain 8-12 yards each play…After a while you can catch them cheating..That’s when you go deep!! Koa needs about 280yds or better & about 70 on the ground..

    FredJ,

    Do your homework.

‘La Salle, like Bishop Amat is one of the more affordable private schools’….La Salle’s tuition is about $15k per year, about 2 times as much as Amat.

Enthusiasm, really? Didn’t Assante at St. Paul have enthusiasm also? Ask St. Paul fans how that is going for them.

    Wow!
Coach Gordon got me fired up. Even though I’m an Amat diehard, I wish La Salle nothing but good luck in football. Gordon obviously has them headed in the right direction.
