I knew this would become a topic/discussion. I was just a week early last week after CO spanked Chino Hills.

We’re now at the part of the season where you start weighing “performance in their own corner of the world” vs. head to head results vs. how they’re playing NOW.

For Fred, if he’s going to hold true to what he said back in August, then Amat has to be No. 1 because they beat CO … and it should take an amazing set of circumstances to knock Amat outta No. 1. Again, that’s if you use the “Freddie in August” line of thinking.

Now, if you agree with my line of thinking that ranking teams that play across a vast range of divisions with a vast set of circumstances is an INEXACT SCIENCE, then you can start to argue why CO maybe should be No. 1.

You can see how Fred’s original line of thinking now creates problems. It is black and white, with no room for gray area. Hey, isn’t that supposed to me?

I think there’s tons of gray area when it comes to ranking teams that range from PAC-5 to Inland to Mid-Valley. There just has to be.

Personally, I leave Amat at No. 1. Their win over CO affords them the right to stay there another week. Their loss was to Alemany, which is no slouch. CO has been great since the Amat loss and is building a solid case in the “right now” department. But these rankings, both Fred and I would agree, are not a snapshot. They are a season-to-date resume. And if Amat is able to beat Crespi, Loyola and ND, they cement themselves as the legit No. 1. If they drop any of those games and CO keeps winning, then the Chargers go to No. 1.

Again, if Freddie is holding true to his line of thinking back in August, there should be no room in his mind for “right now” and “in their own corner of the world” arguments.

Lastly, under NO CIRCUMSTANCES can I see ANY team in the Tribune rankings beside Amat and CO ever being No. 1 the rest of the season.

There is no way amat should drop to a team they beat . Charter oak is going to roll through there league because they have no one left to play . Inland division has only 2 power houses in Vista and Cc . Of course they are going to look good down the stretch . Amat has to play crespi,loyola and notre dame . 3 teams that would beat charter oak .Cant get away with the rankings this year . Amat an CO actually played.

Unfortunately, Amat will stay at number one. As much as they chatter on this blog, I hope they realize they caught CO on a bad night. As for CO, what a time to play your worst football. But, that head-to-head still plays right now. If Amat loses again and CO continues to roll, CO does deserve the No. 1 spot. I don’t care who the team is, you can’t continue to lose and remain No. 1. I’m not so sure that CO would fold against the remainder of Amat’s schedule. Again, that 1st half is now coming back to haunt the Chargers. You cannot rule out their thumping of Chino Hills but as for right now – Amat owns the bragging rights.

Charter oak is terrible. Compared to all the Serra league that amat plays in charter choke would get demolished. No matter what bishop should stay #1 because Amat plays a MUCH harde schedule and Amat put a smack down on them which should have been worse just like every other year Amat has played little charter oak. When your proud of beating Glendora and south hills and teams like that, it’s embarrassing charter choke is nothing compared to Amat period.

For now Amat remains number 1. But I’m beginning to think maybe Amat is a fluke this year. They obviously have no defense. They tied Chino Hills in a shoot out and gave up 56 points to Alemany. On the other hand CO took care of CH easily and their only loss came to Amat. Maybe Amat did catch them on a bad night. If Amat continues to lose and CO continues to win then you have to move CO to number one. Even though Amat beat CO in a head to head match up these power rankings are based on power and Amat lost and CO continues to roll.

Think about it like this…if a college team in the top ten loses and loses big to someone in the top 25 do they drop…yes and sometimes drop big.

Amat hands down number 1 . @jmo . If charter oak is going to use the excuse that they are better now and played there worst game. Monrovia should be able to say they are better at the end of season if they win it all . Charter oak had to great games before amat and lost against amat . It’s not like they started slow .they beat Los al a week before .

Why cant BA drop in the rankings? Chino Hills did and they truly should have gotten that win against Amat had it not been for a last second bogus call. So in all fairness Charter Oaks should be ranked above BA at this time, It’s not the end of the world, both teams still have a destiny to win and prove who should be ranked higher by the end of their seasons. If thats the case then You could still argue that Chino Hills has some say in all of this, remember they still tied the number 1 team and got smacked by the number 2 team. Stop listening to Fred’s BA formula’s in his mind they could never be anything but #1.

Put charter oak number one , who cares . It’s just a ranking . The head to head reality record it’s what reality matters. Not a formula by a bunch of old guys who didn’t play the big game. Charter oak got beat to a point they where frustrated and had to start a fight against amats best player.

Fred’s love of Amat reminds me of Steve Fryer’s love of Servite.

According to the “who beats who” theory, until someone from the Valley knocks Bishop Amat off their thrown, they will always be Number 1. Week after week. And running a Top 10 or Top 25 serves what purpose again?

If it goes off of wins/losses,and weekly performance ( like out in the rest of the real world ), then Charter Oak is THIS WEEKS number 1.

Of coarse, this all has to take into consideration if the Tribunes subscription rates will take a hit or not, since you guys have stated again and again that the content here is subscription/interest fueled.

This is tricky. YES, Amat did beat CO, but Aram is right when there is grey area. You do have to remember that CO didn’t have Hauser until the week after, who knows what could’ve happened with that kid if he had played against Amat. Plus, you also have to remember that CO demolished Chino Hills 49-14 who Amat only tied 48-48. CO put up just as many points against Chino Hills AND shut out their offense. CO can easily beat Amat. Just depends on the circumstances.

In my mind, I am going to have to say if Amat loses again, they’re #2. (If CO goes undefeated the rest of league of course). Yes, you can say you beat CO and you’re automatically number one, but the fact of the matter is, you would be losing to teams on your level of competition in the PAC 5 while CO is winning on their level of competition in the Sierra. Just the way it is. Idk, just my thoughts.

I do not think Amat is concerned to be ranked #1 in the SGV. Amat’s concern is winning aganist Crespi, Loyola and Notre Dame and entering the CIF play offs!

. The only thing CO can say is they beat down Chino Hills who Amat tied. HOWEVER no matter what they say, CO didn’t beat Amat. They got handled by Amat. Hauser didn’t play, worst game of the year for CO..blah blah blah..Darren Andrews didn’t play the 2nd half either and the score was 30-7 before CO’s best defensive play was getting Andrews kicked out. POINT IS: Amat beat Charter Oak.

Lets be brutally honest here, Alemany’s football team is made up of the best athletes from the Pasadena area, 90% Afro-Americ kids. If you look at the schools ethnic make up its like 95% Hispanic. Yet Amat’s team ethnicity represents the schools population. Small latinos cannot compete with size and speed of those Alemany kids. Time to tap in the Monrovia, Duarte, Pasadena area kids if you ever want to win a PAC5 crown. I mean look at Ellis McCarthy 6’5″ 305 lbs his Mom went to Bassett HS, that SH kid Aiono kid 6′ 3″ 280 lbs lives in La Puente and he’s
in the Bassett school district. Time to recruit, i mean attract some speed and beef!

One reason why is because they tied CH who got destroyed by CO but CO played a kind of close one against Amat but amat finally plays a team on their level and gets completely destroyed which could had resulted in over kill but in the SGV Amat beat CO, CO beta CH who tied Amat so its sort of a 3 way tie with CH getting the least votes because they have no win against either team and Amat only has one withno loses but CO has 1 win and 1 lost. If Bishop Amat losses the last 3 games, does Hagerty get fired? 0 and 4 in the Serra will definitely require an entire change in the Amat coaching staff!

Those “Pac 5 Chumps” are the ONLY school to make the playoffs out of the Serra League EACH of the last 4 seasons. During that time neither Crespi or Loyola have won a league title, the others do. So who are the chumps?

I think some of us are missing the point here. Yes Amat had a better night when they beat CO, it happens remember “La Serna and Westlake”. But the main focus here is how can a team remain number 1 that didnt dominate the valley but GOT DESTROYED when they faced someone on their level. IMO Amat should definitely drop it would embarrass the Valley for a team who just got completely embarrassed still be considered or ranked the top dog.

Bishop Amat was complete female handled. No offense to all ladies of the SGV or to those in West Hollywood, but that team that showed up at Alemany on Fridat played like a bunch girls. They were afraid, intimidated, and demoralized! The Lancers were destroyed and humiliated! Your coaching staff was not prepared for our program and they were overwhelmed. Amat’s fans are embarrassing. You people actually were booing for your own team. Who boos their own high school football team? Even the refs were disappointed in you.

As far as I’m concerned , drop us to where ever you want Fred as I have always said these rankings don’t mean much because there is no rhyme or reason to the movement on them . It won’t change the fact that we are the best team in the SGV hands down . The rankings should now reflect what a team does in their COTW , and not getting brownie points for losses. The tough part for you Fred is to weigh those COTW losses because you are giving points for losses . Maybe what gets all these SGV bloggers is that no matter what , in the SGV we live in, AMAT is the best on the field of the SGV teams and there is nothing they can do about it until someone from the “SGV” knocks us off on the field .Ask the CO honks , none of them are contesting AMAT at #1. In the PAC-5 , Serra it’s a different story of which many of these bloggers try to pass on losses to those teams they would never consider playing as a reflection of rankings in the SGV . Maybe you should drop AMAT from the rankings after league play begins for all teams . Because at that time we jump out of the fishbowl and into the ocean to swim . But then again you would be robbing some of these bloggers of the only glory they can muster against AMAT , because they sure as hell can’t do it on their own accord , they must become fans of our Serra league foes or PAC-5 opponenets come playoff time to get those licks in on us when we lose becaise as I said they sure as hell can’t depend on their own teams , isn’t that right Aaron ?????? Now it’s on to Crespi , you do know them don’t you, you should because you sure as hell will be rooting for them come Friday night and if you have the stones you will admit it .

My congrats to Alemany, you were the better team and won! The refs. were not as bad as the refs. in the Chino Hills or Charter Oak games, but they came close. An onside kick that did not go ten yards and was awarded to Alemany, and resulted in a score. A completed pass for Amat that was called, ‘out of bounds!’ Who can say what the score would have been.
To Game Time,What do you mean Latinos can not compete aganist Alemany players. They did compete! They came within seven points of making the score 42 to 42! They scored three touch downs!
After Alemany scored two more TD”s, it’s preety hard to expect a team to score two more after scoring three straight! If you think Amat can not compete because in your words, Amat has, “small Latinos,”(Have you ever heard of Anthony Munoz?) How do you explain the Servite Game?
