Saturday Morning QB: Diamond Ranch beats Bonita on last second FG, 34-31; Bishop Amat closes in on playoff spot with 30-20 win; La Puente knocks off Azusa; South Hills dumps Ayala

What a night in the SGV: Diamond Ranch stunned Bonita with a last second 37-yard field goal to win 34-31. That leaves Bonita and Rowland in a tie for first heading into Week 10, and a wild race for the third playoff spot. Bishop Amat’s win coupled with Alemany’s loss means if Amat beats Notre Dame next week, it will share of piece of the Serra League title. Even better, with Orange Lutheran losing to Mater Dei, Amat is all but guaranteed at least an at-large berth, even with a loss to Notre Dame in the finale. La Puente’s huge win over Azusa means the Warriors and Gladstone will likely share the Montview League title. El Monte and South El Monte’s wins set up showdown next week for the MVL league title. Even with South Hills’ win over Ayala, Damien, despite a loss tonight, is still in the playoff mix. There could possibly be a three-way tie for third between Damien, South Hills and Ayala, but South Hills is in the drivers seat. Get ready for Week 10, it could be a wild one.

I wrote this earlier, if Amat beats Loyola and Orange Lutheran loses to Mater Dei tonight, there is a good chance Amat secures one of the two wild card berths in the Pac-5, even if they lose next week to Notre Dame….Tesoro will for sure get on of the WC berths. It appears the second berth goes to either the third teams from the Trinity or Serra. Orange Lutheran is fourth in the Trinity and can do no better than fourth with a loss against Mater Dei

Damien is definitely more skilled this year than it was last year. On the other hand, Chino Hills is much improved at the QB position this year. If Damien can hold onto the ball and not have any turnovers, I see this game being a shoot out like last year. We seen Damien’s potential on offense last week against South Hills. Even with that huge D-Line, Boykin’s had 189 yards on the ground. It’s scary with Fred liking Damien.

My guess is it will be better as you dont have to scroll all the way down just to see what a person was replying to. Tonight could also be Mater Dei’s trap game! If they lose to orange
Lutheran they would both have 2 losses in league..Santa Margarita has
one loss & will play SJB next week..So it’s possible that 3 teams
from the Trinity end up with 8-2 record..That could put a damper on
things if Amat’s final record is 7-2-1…Amat in a must win situation tonight!!!

That’s the key, If Orange Lutheran wins, Amat has to win out. If Orange Lutheran gets one of the automatic spot in the Trinity, one of the other Trinity teams would surely get an at large. I’m pretty confident, however, if Amat beats Loyola and Mater Dei beats Orange Lutheran, Amat gets in no matter what happens against Notre Dame… Amat’s record and strength of schedule is better than others on the bubble.

I said earlier that it wouldnt surprise me if Alemany lost to both Crespi and loyola, giving Amat the Serra league title. It was a game of “if’s” of course, but stranger things have happened. Interesting thought because if we were to both lose then there would be four team’s at 2-2 right ? So the fact is that, because Crespi beat you guys, then it would be a 4 way tie for first Right ? Meaning that anyone of those four teams were talking about, may not even make the playoffs (unless as the guy from the LA Times said we all get in). If South El Monte should happen to win next week against El Monte, is it a “share” / “co-champions” of the MVL with El Monte? Or is it a sole champion game. I know if El Monte wins, it’s theirs outright. Just wondering how that works out.

Also, I believe it’s practically a guarantee El Monte is in the CIF-SS playoffs, but is South El Monte in that same boat? If the schedule ends where they are tied with other teams in the MVL (not El Monte), the only team that South El Monte lost to, is Rosemead.

Apologies in advance, just would like to know. Thanks for an EASIER posting system for the blog.

1ST off, congratulations to the AMAT LANCERS. Not able to make to the game but kudos once again to Fred and the team. This was one of those “Anything can happen” Friday nights. For tonight Alemany became the victim of karma. Just goes to show that not everything is guaranteed in the Serra. One more game to go Lancers. Its a home game and you’ll be playing for a share of the league title. Do your jobs and victory will be ours. You young men have been working hard since the spring. Time to cash in that ticket to the show. Lets go out there and put in some work. Many counted you out. Some didnt think you would do as well as you did in the preseason. Well you proved them wrong.
