Diamond Ranch might need help to make playoffs; West Covina must win to get in

The Hacienda League has been completely unpredictable, but here are some safe predictions for Thursday. Bonita’s going to beat Diamond Bar to wrap up the league title at 5-1, and Diamond Ranch is going to beat Walnut to finish 4-2. The big game is West Covina-Rowland. If Rowland beats West Covina the Raiders finish tied for first, and get the second-place Hacienda League entry. West Covina would be out of the playoffs with no chance of an at-large berth. If West Covina beats Rowland there is a three-way tie for second between West Covina, Rowland and Diamond Ranch. Because of head-to-heads, West Covina would get second, Rowland third and Diamond Ranch fourth. The Panthers would probably get an at-large with a 7-3 record, but nothing’s guaranteed.

  • Still not sure what this “At Large” berth is about and what criteria (if any) are used to determine who gets it.

There is one at-large berth in the Southeast Division. The Hacienda only has three guaranteed spots, a fourth place team must file for an at-large berth. Basically, CIF selects a team from the Southeast that didn’t qualify through league, meaning the best team available that doesn’t make it. CIF uses a points criteria to determine that team…here is is..

    (4) The Selection Committee, with the full support of the CIF-SS Football Coaches Advisory Committee, will utilize the following criteria in its selectionprocess, with each category below
    having the specific weight listed:
    (a) Head-to-head competition of teams under consideration (4 points)
    (b) Overall strength of the league from which the team is entered (1 point)
    (c) Overall win-loss record (1 point)
    (d) Strength against common opponents (1 point)
    (e) Strength of schedule (2 points, using overall win-loss record of opponents)
    (f) Free lance teams will be part of the pool for the filling of at-large berths

  • Thank you Fred.

So, there’s a remote chance that there will be a three-way tie for the third spot in the Baseline – assuming that Etiwanda loses to Upland and Glendora somehow beats Los Osos. All three would be 2-3, each having beaten Alta Loma.

How do they break ties like this?

No game is a safe prediction. Anything can happen . Walnut can have a perfect game and diamond ranch can have turnovers or something . Diamond bar can have big game from Kenya bell , kordell broadus and tyler brown along with a good defensive performance .
