Tribskin Pick’em, your picks and ours: Week 10 is finally here, going with El Monte, West Covina, Amat and San Dimas to finish strong

Aram and I will go head-to-head in Tribskin Pick’em throughout the season for our annual dinner bet.

Last Week: Robledo (15-3); Tolegian (14-4).
This Week: Robledo (140-60); Tolegian (137-63).

Last Week: I’ve nickled and dimed my way to a three-game lead by going 15-3 to Aram’s 15-4, picking a game for a second-straight week. We both missed taking Bonita over Diamond Bar, Glendora over Colony and Duarte over Sierra Vista, but Aram took Azusa over La Puente, and we all know what happened there. Lunch is looking good heading into Week 10, I’m thinking Petrillo’s.
This week: Great Thursday and Friday lineup, the Hacienda and Mission Valley titles will be decided, as well as playoff spots in the Hacienda. As great as Rowland’s been, West Covina is still too good and has a chance to show if it’s got any title swag going into the playoffs. Diamond Ranch and Bonita will also win, leaving three teams tied for second at 4-2. In that scenario, West Covina and Rowland get in, Diamond Ranch will have to hope for an at-large. Mark this down too, El Monte’s going to finish the job against South and claim their first title 1978. Amat, probably already has done enough to earn an at-large berth in the Pac-5, but beating Notre Dame and finishing no worse than second and possibly first if Alemany loses to Loyola is huge. It’s a first-round home game, and a more winnable first-round game. Take Amat, they hardly ever lose at home. Northview and San Dimas is the Valle Vista League title game on paper, but in reality I like San Dimas by three or four touchdowns. South Hills can finish second with a win at Chino Hills, but it’s not going to happen. With Charter Oak at Damien, we could be watching coach Greg Gano’s final game with the Spartans, and it won’t be pretty.

Playoff pairings are announced on Sunday.

    • Not So Fast My Friend

That’s good news. Looking forward to seeing the pairings.

  • Colt74

Agree with the majority. Think I may go with Arroyo and Los Osos and possibly seriously considering Wilson.

  • AyalaParent

The question I’ve got is for the Ayala Players; Which team is going to show up Friday night? The team that beat Damien or the team that lost to South Hills. I think it’s a fair question.

    • Not So Fast My Friend

Is Ayala still viable for a playoff spot? (curious)

      • AyalaParent

Ayala can make the playoffs IF they beat Claremont and a coin toss goes our way.
“Go Deep” is wrong. South Hills is only in for sure if they beat Chino Hills which we all know is not happening.

        • Not So Fast My Friend

Looking on paper, you guys should be able to get that W. coin toss? Between who?

        • Go Deep

AP, Do you have the Sierra League Rules? If so please post the verbatim portion of the rules stating that a tie between two teams is resolved by a coin toss; not head to head competition. I think the coin toss is only for a three way tie. Also, if you know of a link please post. That would help educate all of us curious fans…

Not so sure WCovina beats Rowland. I saw Rowland beat Diamond Ranch and the Raiders were solid in all aspects of the game and they were very well coached in that game. West Covina may be fighting for their playoff life but the Rowland Raiders have a shot at their first league championship in a very, very long time. I look for this one to be closer than most think and Rowland wins at home 21-17

Can some please explain the “at large playoff birth”

  • FredJ

I just posted this, if West Covina beats Rowland and Diamond Ranch beats Walnut, Diamond Ranch finishes fourth. West Covina, because it beat Rowland and Diamond Ranch, gets second. Rowland, because it beat Diamond Ranch, would get third. However, Diamond Ranch with a 7-3 overall record would likely get the Hacienda’s only at-large berth. If Rowland beats West Covina, West Covina’s out of the playoffs

  • D-Mo

Fred, why did you take Northview? You state that they are 3-4 TD underdogs.

    • FredJ

      that was a mistake, lol

  • Go Deep

Looking at Inland Division and Sierra league. If all goes as projected 1.Charter Oak 2.Chino Hills 3. South Hills are all in. However, Ayala appears to have a shot at a Wild Card if they beat Claremont and Great Oak beats Murrieta Mesa, which looks very possible. Both teams will have a 6-4 record. Big question is… How does CIF decide which team gets that at large berth?

    • Not So Fast My Friend

It’s going to be interesting to see which teams draw who on Sunday

    • AyalaParent

South Hills is NOT in for sure. They have to beat Chino HIlls and win a coin toss to be in. Though South Hills gets to call the toss.

      • Go Deep

        If C.H. beats S.H. C.H. will be 4-1 S.H. 3-2.
C.O. will beat Damien making C.O. 5-0 and league champs. Damien is done.
If Ayala Beats Claremont. Ayala will be 2-3 and Claremont is done.
        So you have:
        1. C.O
        2. C.H
3T. Between S.H. and Ayala. S.H gets 3 slot based on head to head win against Ayala.
Ayala is eligible for at-large berth if Murrieta Mesa loses. If M.M wins it’s over for Ayala. Same question how does CIF choose between two 6-4 teams?

  • Spartan 03

    Fred,
Is the Prep Football Pick’em going to end after week 10 or continue through the playoffs?

  • Colt74

“we could be watching coach Greg Gano’s final game with the Spartans, and it won’t be pretty.” From what I have been hearing the last 2 weeks there ain’t no possibility about it. Sad actually, because he is a SGV legend.

    • Not So Fast My Friend

Yeah I was told that CH vs Damien game was pretty bad after being competitive in the first quarter and half of the second.

  • OldMan in Chino

I was at the Chino Hills/Damien game and for the first quarter it looked like the game was going to be a shoot-out. Damien’s running back; Boykins was almost unstoppable and really ran up some yardage on Chino Hills’ defense. Toward the end of the second quarter, Chino Hills got their offense in sync and after that Damien was overpowered and was unable to stop Chino Hills.
As to Ayala and South Hills making the play-offs, that is a possibility, however it could will be a “one and out” given who they will draw in the first round. I would guess either Upland, Vista Murrietta or Corona Centennial.

    • Not So Fast My Friend

Well Old Man in Chino, never let it be said Centennial is not a great host. Lol.

  • Colt74

CIF shot down southerns call for removing ” athletically motivated”..there is hope for CIF yet.

  • SGV_FOOTBALL

Looking at the CIF rankings, looks like CO will have a decent shot at meeting either CC or VM in the semi’s like CH did a couple years back. Lets just hope the boys pull together and make a run deep in the Inland!!!

  • Glendora

Glendora still has a chance to make playoffs
