“Defense wins championships,” South El Monte coach Ibis Aguilar said. “Yes. Definitely. We just do what we do. We’ve done it every week. And today I think we had a pretty good offensive effort as well. I’ve always felt we had the No. 1 defense (in league) and that we could defend their offense. We are the No. 1 team in our league and we proved that tonight.”

      You do mean SHOULD, right?

It wasn’t even close. SEM’s defense came up big and their qb played exceptionally well. El Monte was definitely off tonight.

You have to give it up to South El Monte, Ibis said they’re going to find out if defense wins championships … He talked it and walked it, congrats to the Eagles

The big man just picked up 2 games on you with The Mead and Arroyo. Better send him to a grass game tomorrow…lol

Yes, defense was key. Offense was clicking as well. I can’t count the number of times SEMHS rushed BMar, even with the actually counted sacks. For the ones he hurried to avoid a sack, 5 Picks for the SEMHS DEFENSE.

The last drive for El Monte was the icing on the cake. They were down 20-33, with just a little over a minute left, no timeouts, running the “no-huddle”, and as BMar tried to throw into the end-zone, BOOM! Picked off to seal the deal.

Both Teams played great. Got to give props to all the SEMHS Alumni who came out to support the Eagles. Great atmosphere to be in. :)

El Monte had to know this was coming. They have given up over 30 pts on 5 occasions and they gave up over 40 three times and over 60 once. You had to know this was coming. If the lions don’t find some defense, they are done. Matter of fact, they are done.
