Tribskin Pick’em, your predictions and ours: Not many sure things in the first round of the playoffs

Aram and I will go head-to-head in Tribskin Pick’em throughout the season for our annual dinner bet.

Last Week: Robledo (10-8); Tolegian (14-4).
This Week: Robledo (150-68); Tolegian (151-67).

Last Week: If week 10 was for league titles and playoff spots, I choked with a three-touchdown lead in the fourth quarter. Despite a three-game lead, Aram’s now in front after going 14-4 to my 10-8, giving the Big Fella a one-game lead heading into the playoffs. There were too many games to point out where Aram got me, but he called it taking Notre Dame over Amat, Rosemead over Mountain View, Arroyo over Gabrielino and Wilson over Nogales — all games I took the opposite.

This week: There are a lot of toss-ups in the first round starting with the heavyweights, Bishop Amat at Long Beach Poly and Charter Oak hosting Chaparral. This isn’t the time to pick against the area, not when Amat and Charter Oak are 10-point favorite’s on Calpreps. They’re both tough games, but that’s what you expect from start to finish in the Inland and Pac-5. I’ve got the Hacienda going 1-3 in the first round with Bonita the only winner over Santa Fe. I don’t like West Covina’s chances against Paramount, the Bulldogs have simply not been the Bulldogs, despite their showing in Week 10. I like San Dimas and Covina to advance, but not taking Arroyo. In a couple of WSGV games I added, I like Muir over California and La Salle over Compton Centennial

No big problem with any of your picks except one. West Covina playing much better and alot healthier than earlier. I see them winning by two touchdowns. A slight issue with Bonita. Turner and Verdugo banged up and Diebold a flop, I see another close one for the bearcats but a loss at home.

    • greenie

I saw Utah record Broadus, and Diebold at that game. After Diebold Threw a terrible pick, they stop filming him and only film Broadus. He can’t handle pressure. I know West Covina is playing better, but Paramount is athletic and huge up front. I think if they were more balanced they can win. I saw Santa Fe vs la Serna…and Santa Fe’s QB is not very good either, and they don’t pound the rock. Bonita just needs to run the ball. Their two head RB crew should get it done. But their HC is showing 1st year experience.

    I have…

Poly over Amat – Amats not playing well, Poly has not played anyone- I am going with the Athletes.

SEM over Covina- Defense, Defense, Defense, the eagles stopped B Mart, they’ll stop Covina

Paramount over West Covina- Paramount is big and athletic. West Co will need to throw some to win it.

El Monte over Montebello- B Mart is good for one playoff win.
Dranch over La Serna- La Serna, has not been blowing teams out, Westlake was a long time ago. This is my sleeper pick.

San Dimas over Winward- SD too good on D, too good on O…Easy win.

BG over Arroyo- Arroyo, is suffering From Post Rivera Syndrome…BG Pride wins this one.

Bonita Over Santa Fe- Bonita is questionable after DBar game. Santa Fe is just Ok.

Vista over South HIlls- God Bless SHills.

Chino HIlls over Redlands-Huskies bring their A game, they should get a win.
Sierra Canyon over Northview- Terrible Draw…Long ride, there…long ride home.

Nordhoff over Sierra Vista- These Trivalley teams can be beat. SV might be a horse or two short.

Downey over Rowland- It’s win or go home. Rowland had a great year. I think they are out of surprise victories.

Muir over California-Which Muir shows up? If the stangs play a complete game, they can beat just about anyone in the Division.

La Salle over Compton Cent- La Salle is on a run. They will get a 1st round win.

San Marino over Schurr- San Marino is well coached, will have better QB play.

Monrovia over Viewpoint-Which Cat’s will show up? Viewpoint has seen Paraclete and Sierra Canyon, Monrovia won’t be a shocker. Cats win.

Going with my Colts on this one. SEM got the win over ELMO but the only thing that stopped BMART was BMART. Don’t think SEM will stop Ramirez and the gang. Aram will regret picking against us Friday night.
San Dimas can sleep walk in this one, Saints BIG. And I mean B-I-G! Paytons game Friday night will be all he needs for a recruiting video.
Northview got the short end of the stick in the draw but the only thing they can do is play hard. Well that, and keep telling everyone how DT personally screwed them over. I wish the Vikings all the luck in the world, but feel Sierra Canyon wins comfortably, and NVH mom gets to hate me more on the long drive home.

Colt74, reading your comments about DT reminds me of last year during the playoffs, when someone had finally shut you up, and you were gone for days from these blogs.

Will DT cross that line, last year he did when it was validated that he was padded multi player’s stats in Maxprep. One of the examples was Livingston throwing a pick in the playoff game against Monrovia that never showed up in his stats. That was the only time last season you were speechless.

If you expect us to take you on your word that DT isn’t capable of that, we don’t.

      • Colt74

Look fool, I was NEVER gone from the blogs during the playoffs. FACT. Feel free to check the archives. I was the FIRST one to come on and congratulate Monrovia. I don’t care what you believe or don’t. I thought I made my self perfectly clear in the other thread you decided to drool and babble in.
And who’s the US? As in expect US? You and the voices in your head?
My guess is it’s getting crowded in there.
What’s next..DT filled the footballs with helium so Livingston passed and set Covinas new passing records? Or…DT had special shoes made with flubber so Vinegas got more yards?
You SERIOUSLY are a pathetic case for a human being. And when I say that I do that with all the respect that you deserve.

Poly is hard to figure out because they have not beat anyone . But also there losses are to Serra and Narbonne . Great teams . According to voting committee , the Moore league is better than the Serra . So we have the number 1 team playing an at large team of the worst league . Who should win?? Pretty even match in my view .

  • The Chef

Geenie do you just write to get everyone’s attention or are you just stupid? For your information, in 5 league games La Serna beat their opponents 227 – 60. I guess an average margin of victory of 33 points is not blowing teams out by Mid-Valley (or JAA) standards. To quote an former English Prime Minister, it is far better to not speak and be thought a fool than to open your mouth (or your computer) and remove all doubt.

    • greenie

Chef Slow down…Were you at the Santa Fe game? I was… Is La Serna Better than Sante Fe yes. However,The only reason why that game got out of hand was that Sante Fe’s Coach went for in on 4th down like 4-5 times in his own territory. La Serna Capitalized. Sante Fe’s WR drop 1 for sure TD and other passes which would have moved the sticks into la Serna Territory. The Santa fe Run defense was good, Both teams DB’s are not very good. Then La Serna follows that up by barely beating a good Cal team. You may think I am just writing for attention, but I go to games buddy. I see some weaknesses in La Serna’s game. They are a seeded team…but They to me are not a shoe in to make the finals….and this game is going to be tough. I think Dranch is better than Sante Fe and along the same level as Cal.

    74,
again you show your true colors.

    • Colt74

Cardinal and white. You think otherwise? Fire away!

  • The Chef

Greenie what you said was that they are not blowing anyone away which is wrong. I was at the SF game as well and the 1st 4th down fiasco was actually a muffed snap. Also it was 3 times not 4-5 in his own territory. You must have been watching for drama not content. I was also at the Cal game. In that rivalry game, La Serna was down 1 point and allowed Cal to get a 40 yard touchdown with 2 mins so that they could come back and get a touchdown and go for 2. That takes a coach with a GIANT sized pair (along the size of say scheduling Westlake and Norco in your pre-season) and the do to back it up. You are absolutely entitled to your opinion (regardless of how uninformed it may be) but at least consider that you are not the resident expert on all things high school football and yes your poo does stink…

    • greenie

So you are saying that Santa Fe only went for it on fourth down only one time? It was 14 -0 at half time. I don’t think so. Santa Fe, could have punted several times to change the field position and didn’t, but decided to go for it over and over again. Also, They were stopping the run and had La Serna in 3rd and longs and Palmer made some big plays scrambling. The Santa Fe OC ran out of plays and did not know what to call. Any way you try to spin it, DRanch is along the lines of Cal and is better than Santa Fe. They also are well coached with more speed. Another reason why I picked them is 28-27 win over Downey, and 27-20 win over Bonita in preseason. I said preseason games don’t matter, but when it’s inter-divisional, you can see how the athletes and coaches match up. Do think La Serna would blow out the hacienda teams like they did El Rancho, Whittier, and Pioneer? I don’t.The Hacienda is stronger than the Del Rio league, so Dranch is fully capable of beating La Serna. In no way is La Serna a lock to the finals.

  • The Chef

greenie By the way, I didn’t know that you solely were considered “The SGV”. Please forgive me, I had no knowledge that I was in the presence of royalty.

    • greenie

lol…I am part of it. However I am not royalty, I just get out to see a lot of games. Especially Thursday night games.
