Have you heard of Pacifica University — In Covina? It’s a sports college with an emphasis on sports-related degrees

Say What? Pacifica University has taken over the old campus at Western Christian High in Covina, near the campus of Royal Oak Middle School. Baseball coach Matt Stark explained that it’s a college designed for sports with an emphasis on sports degrees. Pacifica will play an Independent schedule against NCAA D-2, D-3 and NAIA teams — mostly on the road with home games at nearby locations. We’re working on a story as we learn more about the university, but browse their website, this could be a terrific outlet for area athletes.

For a better understanding, check out the presidents message: Welcome to Pacifica University, your gateway to the future, where many opportunities await you! Really Fred…?

Let me ask you this…Would you send your kid to this (eh…hem!) academic institution…?

This is a freaken joke…! I never thought I would say this, but the City College of Mount San Antonio is a significant step-up to this joke! And that’s just the academics…!

    Not In 2013 Either…

This “university” probably isn’t accredited. “Pacifica University recognizes the importance of accreditation. After our first two years of existence we are eligible for many accreditations. Our Board of Trustees and executive staff are actively working on three different accreditations at this time. A combination of national and regional accreditation will lead to one of the most respected institutions in the country. All students enrolled in our programs will be recognized by the time of their graduation.” Fred, please don’t promote this place. In fact, you should condemn it because it probably exploits low information students and families. ESPN did a report about a similar school back east.

I’m thankful Fred isn’t my kids academic counselor!

    Fred,

There’s a process in starting a new University. Gaining accreditation takes time, This University is doing something new and there will always doubters! Look at some of the coaches their hiring. Athletic Director is a former professional basketball player. The new baseball coach played in the Major Leagues. Two sports are active and have schedules in place. Six other sports will start up in 2014. I think many potential student/athletes would be interested sports degrees. I’d rather my kid study something he is interested and has a passion for! Sounds like a good opportunity for somebody that has been passed over, black balled, cut from another college. Let’s wait and see!

      Fred,

The President of this University was a Professor and “Dean of Academia” at American Sports University in San Bernardino. When you call their direct number you are forwarded to a telephone number in the (919)…call the toll free numbers associated with the University and you get a voice mail…one thing to be a start-up and not have anyone answering a telephone, but not a College or University..their is no number for HR or Administration…
