Covina Girls Tournament: Bishop Amat, Bonita advance to quarters; Rosemead blows out San Dimas in Azusa tourney


AZUSA TOURNAMENT: Rosemead makes good impression in romp over San Dimas; Seniors Melody Gauthier and Sydney Hua scored 29 and 28 points, respectively, and Rosemead rolled to a 67-22 victory over San Dimas in a pool-play game.

COVINA TOURNAMENT ROUNDUPS
First round
Bishop Amat 84, Los Altos 30

Bishop Amat advances to the second round where they will face Los Osos a 49-48 winner over South Hills. The Lancers were led by junior guard Amanda Alvarado with a career-high 17 points, which included five 3-pointers. Senior forward Mauriana Clayton also added 14 points.
Los Osos 49, South Hills 48
Los Osos (2-1) edged South Hills to advance in first round action. Leading Los Osos in scoring was Nian Curry with 20 points and Xaida Wright chipped in with ten points. Both Nicole Stark and Sharon Ramirez had 6 points each and La Shyra Nolen added 5 points.
South Hills (3-4) was led by Sarah Madrigal and Brittany Wang each with 15 points and Samantha Perez added 11 points for the Huskies.
SOUTH EL MONTE TOURNAMENT
First round
Glendora 34, Hoover 22

Glendora advanced to the second round and improved to 2-0. Senior Casie Lowden led the Tartans with a game-high 13 points and nine rebounds (six defensive, three offensive). Senior Marie Ramirez added eight points, while junior Olivia Habern chipped in with five points and eight rebounds. Hoover was led by sisters’ Nanor and Nairi Sevajian who scored six and foour points, respectively. Caitlyn Teng contributed with four points.
NONLEAGUE
Wilson 58, La Mirada 31

Senior Kelli Calton came up big for Wilson with 15 points, 19 rebounds and three 3-pointers. Junior Kaelyn Kawamoto added 19 points for the Wildcats to go with four 3-pointers. Senior Tiffany Lam contributed with eight points and six rebounds. Calton also played good denense for Wilson with three steals and two blocked shots. With the win Wilson improved to 3-3. Leading scorer for La Mirada (2-4) was Alexandria Vanzuilen with 11 points.
