Sierra Vista girls soccer improves to 9-1 with 6-0 win over Ganesha

The Sierra Vista girls soccer team had no problems in a 6-0 win over Ganesha.

The Dons received a strong performance from Jessica Lopez, a junior forward who had a goal and three assists.

On the season, Lopez has 14 goals and 17 assists.

Sierra Vista (9-1-0, 4-0-0) wasted little time in getting down to business as it scored in the seventh, ninth, 50th, 55th, 72nd and 75th minutes.

Ganesha (3-5-1, 0-2-1) failed to get anything going against the Dons.

Sierra Vista senior sweeper Cynthia Hernandez, who scored two goals, got things going with a header off Lopez’s corner kick that beat Ganesha goalie Mikael Wilson and into the upper corner of the net for a 1-0 lead.

Two minutes later, senior midfielder Esabel Chavez scored on Lopez’s second assist from about 20 yards out for a 2-0 halftime lead.

Sierra Vista continued the pressure in the second half and made it 3-0 in the 50th minute.

Lopez scored her lone goal on a pass from senior midfielder Jasmine Loera as she beat Wilson one on one.

Five minutes later, junior forward Daisy Ruiz increased Sierra Vista’s lead to 4-0 when she received a pass from Loera over the middle and her shot from about 22 yards out beat Wilson.

In the 72nd minute, freshmen Alejandra Vargas received a perfect pass from Ruiz down the side and her 15-yard shot made the score 5-0.

Lopez collected her third assist in the 75th minute when her corner kick again found Hernandez, who scored on a header within the goal area to close things out for Sierra Vista.
