Great job Lobos. Boys are off to a valleys best 13-1 record with its only loss coming in OT. Yet they are # 10???? They have arguably the best back court in the valley with Junior PG John Paul Rodriguez who is ave. 15.7 after 14 games and Osnar Garcia one of the top scorers in the Valley putting up 23 ppg. Not to mention being anchored by 2 seniors in the front court in 6’10 3 year starter Dan Solis who is averaging 2.5 block per game and 6’9 Mario Macias who is averaging a double double with 10 ppg and 10 boards not to mention his 4 blocked shots per game. The Lobos should run the table in league and go into the playoffs with the Valleys Best record at 25-1. Way to go Lobos. To think it almost took a perfect record to crack the top 10.

Workman is where they should be. Remember, THAT ONLY loss was to Bishop Amat, a team beaten recently by Rowland 66-29. Workman also lost to San Gabriel Academy 74-63, but was given that win on forfeit. They also snuck away with a two-point win over Baldwin Park. Plus, every team ranked ahead of Workman has bigger wins on the resume. They’ll probably be 25-1 because the Montview is really down this year, but that doesn’t make them better than the teams ranked ahead does it? Workman had their chance to compete with the area big boys in the Arroyo tournament, and lost to Amat. So, you tell me, who should I rank them ahead of? Diamond Ranch, who just beat Bonita. Rowland, who crushed Bishop Amat. Covina, a proven team in local tournaments. Over the Sierra League teams? Over Glendora? Over La Verne Lutheran? See, Workman is where they should be for now.

I’m sorry if I came of sounding like I was nitpicking, because
you are probably right there really isn’t a big leap between being # 9 and #10 in your rankings. But I do have a hard time understanding how you can rank and 8-7 Diamond Ranch team over a 13-1 Workman team. Even if we give The Lobos the
Loss to San Gabriel Academy that makes them 12-2 for the year only #1 Damien and #3 Glendora have less losses this year . Now you brought up Workman “sneaking away” with a 2 pt win over Baldwin Park who Diamond Ranch blew out by 5? Come on
now doesn’t that sound like you are nitpicking a bit? Plus it’s not like Baldwin Park is a bad team they are 11-6 and 3 of those losses coming to your #10 Workman, #9 Diamond Ranch and #7 Glendora. So let’s not make it sound like Baldwin Park is a bad team. Now Workman’s only loss came to an 11-7 Bishop Amat team in overtime. So I guess Diamond Ranch’s win over a 13-5 Bonita team in combination with Workmans1 bad loss to an 11-7 Amat team voids out the Fact that Workman is 13-1 and Diamond
Ranch is 8-7? Interresting??? Now with all that said my intention was to bring attention the The Lobos and their amazing season not to the Rankings.

I would bet anything that diamond ranch doesnt deserve a spot higher than Workman. Workman has constantly fought the bad reputation it has. Can’t you just accept the fact that Workman is a quality basketball program and ignore your personal feelings toward the low income community. Stop being ignorant and hating on these kids who work their behinds off at practice and put on a show on game nights, in hopes of an articl written about them.

Lady Lobos!!!!!!!! The game against Duarte
should be one for the ages I really hope to see the Tribune in the stands for
that game. For those of you who have not had a chance to see the ladies in
action you are missing out. The Lady Lobos are led by Senior Captain Guard
Essence Pineda and up in coming stars in Sophomore Captain Guard Denise Gonzalez and Freshman Forward
Alize Williams. Yes I said sophomore and Freshman. Sophomore Denise Gonzalez is ave 23 ppg making her the 4th
leading sophomore scorer in the State not to mention her 7 steals per game that
is # 10 in all of California. Alize is only a freshman but she is already
dominating the competition with 17.5 ppg making # 10 in the state amongst
freshman and 8.4 boards. Fred is absolutely right when he said Workman is a
place to play. There is something special going on in the Workman gym these days. Both boys and girls should hang a Montview League Banner this year.

  • Buddy_Bird

No disrespect, but Workman hasn’t played anybody. I’m sure strength of schedule plays a part in the rankings.

  • merp

Ayala girls basketball played a super tough schedule? If you check their schedule, you would have seen that Workman girls basketball program have play those opponents too. “Of all sudden, Workman a place to play basketball?” The program has being getting stronger and stronger for the past three years. Please do your own research before you are typing your own shinanigans into your blog.

Hey Fred, how are you doing? Well let me start by saying:) I know how well you have covered who I know for a fact the girl with the greatest stats mountview league has ever seen let alone every county in California, Imari Brown. This is. Crazy she riegn supreme and even beat the last 3 years who the league always Boston about . This year rewriting numbers in record books, dissmantling teams in 5 statistical catagories fluidly.Every year she’s gotten better every year, purely too good for girls in this league even if they are avg. over 20….right now she can be avg. Over 35 if she want but blowouts take her out the game in the 3rd quarter. The road goes thru duarte first,so before you talk about who workman has everybody needs to be talking about imari brown first…..She is in a league of her own beyond a week mountview league no doubt.you will never see numbers like hers probably ever and never have. Workman is still trying to beat duarte for the first time in 3-4 years.
ever.first from duarte to get league MVP twice, when it should be 3 times Herrera of last year never beat Imari brown C’mon now.

  • Steph.B.

Everybody still downplaying duarte girls, as if Imari brown didn’t rip them apart, she has everyone’s mother or father pissed ain’t no girl in this league has a complete game like Imari brown has had, workman even know that, if not just ask Muir and Pasadena high…. their not in duartes league and they mutilated john Muir 3 games in a row starting from summer league. Imari Brown scored 32*28*21 against them. Nobody on workman can hold a candle to Imari brown. So before ppl start bieng 1 sided with workman just remember your freshman’s, soph. Jun.
