Bishop Amat beats La Salle 5-0: The Bishop Amat High girls soccer team used a full-out sprint Thursday evening.

Bishop Amat sprinted out to a quick 1-0 lead and then sprinted by host La Salle for a 5-0 victory in Del Rey League play.

“We have been talking about stepping it up, and our speed up front was able to show that,” Bishop Amat coach Ruben Gonzalez said.

Bishop Amat (8-3-5), coming off a 3-2 overtime loss in its league opener, scored two minutes into the game off a corner kick. Yazmin Montoya sent a curving kick over goalkeeper Cassidy Rey’s head. The ball came down just inside the goal line, right at La Salle’s Riley Moran on the back post of the net. The defender tried to knock it out before the ball touched the ground, but the shot’s spin prevented that. Rey said she was tripped and could not jump for the shot.
