Boys Basketball: Pioneer scares another Valle Vista Leage foe, San Dimas survives, 74-63; Saints travel to St. Francis on Friday

SAN DIMAS — Pioneer High School might want to consider a move to the Valle Vista League.
The Titans certainly put up their best efforts against teams from the Valle Vista, scaring a team from the San Gabriel Valley league for the second consecutive season.
This time, it was host San Dimas, which breathed a sigh of relief after holding off Pioneer, 74-63, in a CIF-Southern Section Division 3A first-round game.
The Saints, getting 22 points from Jordan Stokes and 16 from Greyson McGee, improved to 16-10 and will travel to St. Francis in Friday’s second round.
Pioneer, which lost to Covina last season, finished 10-18. Courtney Ramon scored 30 points to lead the Titans.
San Dimas coach Bruce Robbins: “I guess (I feel relief). In the first half in particular (Pioneer) didn’t seem to miss anything. We changed up a little in the second half. They still made some, but it was nothing like the first half.”
Pioneer coach Gregory Gilmore: “Our guys played hard. We’re a great shooting team. Some of our role players who normally hit shots didn’t make those shots tonight. (Ramon) stepped up and had a great game. But a lot of our other shooters didn’t shoot the ball well tonight.”
