La Verne Lutheran falls to Serra in Division 4AA boys basketball title game, 70-52 Posted on March 2, 2013 by Fred Robledo By Tim Dutton, correspondent Anaheim – Serra High’s boys basketball program had been here before. On paper, so had La Verne Lutheran, making it look like Saturday’s CIF-SS Division 4AA boys basketball championship game was a rematch of a year ago. It clearly wasn’t, though, as defending champion Serra (25-6) used its superior size and athleticism to roll to a 70-52 victory at Anaheim Arena. It was the Cavaliers’ seventh CIF sectional title and third in four years. Serra beat La Verne Lutheran 69-59 last season, but the Trojans had only one starter and two players back from that team. It showed in the early going Saturday as La Verne Lutheran (25-7) gave up the first six points and played catch-up the rest of the way.
