La Canada and Charter Oak already have punched tickets to Friday’s semifinals and two games today will decide the others. The winner of South Hills-Northview today at 3:15 p.m., will decide Group B and the winner of West Covina-Bishop Amat will decide Group D. My guess is that Northview and Bishop Amat both win. Friday’s semifinals are at 3:15 and 5:15 respectively, at San Dimas.

South Hills routs Whittier Christian: Missing the playoffs last year after making it to two consecutive CIF-Southern Section Division 2 finals appears to have inspired the South Hills High School softball team to have a better year in 2013.
The Huskies (4-1) jumped on top in the first inning and never looked back in a 12-0 win over Whittier Christian (0-2) in Tuesday’s opening-round game of the annual San Dimas Tournament.
South Hills will face Northview, an 8-0 winner over Alta Loma, today at 5:30 p.m.

COVINA — There are very few softball teams in the area who can match the offensive prowess of Charter Oak High School.
The Chargers might be able to add some pitching to their repertoire this season, which would be bad news for the rest of the Valley.
Glendora got a taste of it on Monday.
Sophomore KaileChavez and Brooke Clemetson combined on a three-hitter and Charger Oak was its usual self offensively en route to a 9-1 victory over the Tartans in a San Dimas Tournament pool-play game that was halted in the sixth to the eight-run rule.
The Chargers, also getting two hits and three RBIs from Anissa Gallegos and two hits and two RBIs each from Nicki Sprague and Samantha Valadez, improved to 2-0.
Kayla Sok scored the only run for Glendora, which slipped to 2-2.

Chavez retired the first 11 batters and gave up a hit with two strikeouts in four innings. Clemetson gave up two hits and a run in two innings. She had three strikeouts.
Charter Oak coach Scott Higuera: “We were really pleased with Chavez today. She’s been in soccer, so we were hoping to get her a few innings, and she mixed up her pitches real well, threw strikes and got ground balls, which is what we wanted her to do to. I pleased with Brooke to come in relief and hold that lead for us. So far, we’re very pleased with how we’re doing pitching wise.”
Glendora coach Mike Quiroz: “Anytime you give a team like that five outs in an inning, they are going to score. Our pitchers did OK. They’ve been sharper. But the errors, combined with a lack of offense make it tough.”
