Softball Rankings: Bishop Amat cements No. 1 spot after dominant run in San Dimas tournament

Tribune Softball Poll
1. Bishop Amat (4-2) – Couldn’t of been any more dominating in winning the San Dimas tournament. In addition to scoring 41 runs in the tourney, pitcher Sabrina Anguiano threw four shutouts and gave up a total of three hits, finishing with a no-hitter in a 7-0 victory in the championship over La Canada.
2. Chino Hills (7-3) – Played in extremely tough Corona tournament and the always tough tourney in Arizona. They have solid wins on the resume, and arguably the best pitcher in Patricia Parks.
3. Ayala (5-1) – The Bulldogs could threaten Chino Hills for the Sierra League title. They’ve performed well in the Corona tournament and own a nice 5-3 win over Canyon Springs.
4. Charter Oak (5-1) – Considering only loss was an 8-0 shutout against top-ranked Bishop Amat, the Chargers deserve a bump up in the rankings, especially after solid 8-0 win over Monrovia. But we’ll find out more about the Chargers against Bonita on Wednesday.
5. Bonita (3-2) — Have won three straight after starting 0-2 and have a chance to show if it’s the real deal in the Charter Oak tournament after losing junior pitcher Anissa Sanchez and senior catcher Michelle Whitt, who are no longer with the team (for reasons that are too complicated to explain).
6. South Hills (6-2) — Considering all the turmoil, which includes losing longtime coach Scott Fisch while the school conducts an internal investigation into hazing allegations, the Huskies are still among the areas elite.
7. St. Lucy’s (3-3) — Struggling early after losing one of its best senior classes in history, but the Regents have played a tough schedule so far.
8. Northview (2-2) — Better than record, only losses to La Canada and Charter Oak, two games they played well enough to win, just came up short.
9. Covina (4-4) — Despite consecutive losses to Claremont to open the season, the Colts advanced to title game of the Duarte tournament, losing to San Marino 1-0 in title game.
10. San Dimas (4-4) – Split with Glendora with wins over Los Altos and South El Monte. Not great, but good enough to grab the 10 spot.
