Best team in the valley, period.

  • 12th man

Best Hitting in the Valley!! Pitching would be sub-par in Orange County

    • Softball Guru

How many Orange County teams made it to CIF Div 1 through Div 7 finals last year? ZERO. Unless Garbage Grove is part of the OC? If so, they lost to Kaiser in Div 4.

      • 12th man

That was last year~ Last time I Checked Mission Viejo beat Amat & is currently ranked #1 in the Southern Section not too mention these other schools who are currently ranked ahead also (Yorba Linda,Canyon,La Quinta,Marina,Pacifica,Mater Dei,Esperanza) I know rankings mean nothing in Softball because the game could be decided on an error or a walk..So to say one team is better than another in a one game series is impossible..I simply stated that the OC has better pitching simply because of their top travel teams that they come from (Firecrackers,OC Batbusters,So Cal A’s,Corona Angels)

        • Softball Guru

So….Firecrackers, OC Batbusters, So Cal A’s, Corona Angels only have players from the OC? That’s an ignorant statement. Amat has players from these teams, a lot of SGV players feed these travel teams.

          • 12th man

Not what I said! The travel teams I mentioned have pitchers attending OC & Corona area High Schools..There is no pitcher in the Valley playing for the teams I mentioned..If you follow travel ball & know the circuit you would know what i’m talking about & you would also know who goes where?

          • Softball Guru

You originally only said OC schools, now you are sneaking in Corona area schools as well. Yeah, you know what you are talking about. Haha

  • Get Real

12th man, When Amat steps on to the field, they don’t care who they play. Pitching, hitting and defense in the Valley is not what Amat measures up to. What their record doesn’t show is the OC high schools they have “mercied”. They can hit and pitch with the best of them and they can play defense as well as any of them. By the way, another high school they “mercied” that is not reflected on their record, Ayala High School.

Up to this point..Amat has only been tested twice vs Mission Viejo & Vista Murrieta..They lost both! The current schedule they have has them running the table with the exception of Corona Santiago who is the real deal..If they get passed them? I will be sold!

Bishop Amat will get their next big test on Wednesday at home against Corona Santiago, ranked seventh nationally, fourth in state by Maxpreps.

In my opinion, Amat is the best team in Division 3 on down. Once you get to Division 1 and 2 it gets a lot more tougher. They have certainly shown they can play and beat those teams such as in the Surf City High School Tourney in February that isn’t reflected in the recorded. The Santiago game should be fun.

    • Ray_Morehart

That “tourney” isn’t reflected in their record because they were scrimmages. Anything held before a certain date is a scrimmage. Teams use those games to figure out their team. Some teams use them as tryout period. They play girls at different spots to see where they can move players around. Those games need to be taken with a HUGE grain of salt. They mean VERY LITTLE. Even though Amat may or may not have played their #1s, it doesn’t mean the teams that they played did as well. If they beat Santiago, I’ll give them their due. So far, they’ve beat everyone that they should have. They haven’t beaten teams that are equal or above their talent level.

      • TheCloser

Yeah, I get that Amat used their fall ball games as practice as well. However, the Surf City Tourney was over President’s Day weekend, fielded 24 teams including schools like Marina and Orange Lutheran, and Marina beat Amat in the championship throwing their stud ace who is Michigan bound. I’m pretty sure if you attended any of those games you’d know what I mean.

        • TheCloser

That close to the season you pretty much know what team you’re rolling with and ask the Marina coaches if they didn’t want to win that tourney.
