AZUSA —
There was nothing on the line Thursday night at Azusa Pacific but pride.
That was enough for the Bonita and Northview high school baseball teams, who battled 11 innings before the Bearcats, ranked No. 1 in the Valley this week, outlasted the Vikings, 3-2.
Jacob Blunt had the game-tying RBI in the seventh and Austin McGilvra had a RBI double in the 11th for Bonita, which improved to 15-2-1. Northview, getting a two-run double in the sixth from Dom Baca, dropped to 13-4.
The Vikings, who missed a chance to win it in the eighth when Alex Labor was thrown out at the plate trying to advance on a passed ball, loaded the bases with two outs in the 11th. But reliever Sam Stavang struck out Michael Carlos to end the game.
