Plenty of drama during the first-round of the CIF-Southern Section softball playoffs, Bishop Amat, the Tribune’s top team, trailed 2-1 going to the bottom of the seventh but rallied to defeat El Segundo, 3-2. South El Monte with the surprise result of the day, knocking off San Marino and super pitcher Michelle Floyd, 2-0. Other mild shockers, South Hills knocking off Pacific Coast League champion Beckman, 4-2. The Valle Vista league’s best two, Northview and San Dimas, both won easily and Charter Oak clobbered West Covina, 13-5

PRE-GAME PREDICTIONS: I’m rooting and pulling for the SGV teams as much as anyone, but not sure there will be many left standing after today. Guranteed winners are Bishop Amat, Charter Oak, San Dimas and Chino Hills. 50-50 chances for Ayala, Bonita, Duarte, Northview and those going fishing are South Hills, South El Monte, Sierra Vista and Arroyo. I will update as many as I can later and if you’re at a game, tweet updates to @sgvnsports and I’ll retweet it.
