GLENDORA — The names might change at St. Lucy’s Priory High School from season to season, but the talent level continues to stay the same.
The Regents, who have won two CIF-Southern Section division titles during the past three seasons, look very capable of making adding some more hardware to their already crowded trophy case and showed it Tuesday.
Veronica LaPierre had 10 kills to lead five Regents with at least three and St. Lucy’s swept Bonita 25-12, 25-17, 25-21 in the season opener that pitted two area powers. Rachel Cavananaugh and Natalie Caro had four kills each for the Regents, who began the season ranked No. 8 in CIF-SS Division 1A. Sarah Bruchet had three putaways.
Olivia Rioseco had seven for the Bearcats.

St. Lucy’s coach Sean Douglas: “We always have high expectations. We have girls on this team who have won rings before and I think they were disappointed they didn’t win three in a row. That’s how we play. We go for the championship every time. Tonight, I just wanted to see what works best for us. It’s a good time to do that. It got a little funky at the end, but we were able to win in three. I’m happy with our performance.”
Bonita coach Adriana Contreras: St. Lucy’s has always been a great team. They have the offense, they have the defense. We are a young team. I think toward that third game we put up a pretty good fight. I saw a definite improvement.”
