LOL Fred might NOT BE an Amat homer but boy does he ever come off as one.

    • FredJ

I’m a homer to schools and sports that produce web views and hits

      • Royal Blue Thunder

…and enough free food at a gigantic Bishop Amat tailgate party to feed a large village…a large village with Aram as chief.

        • SGV Dad

Aram and Fred are always welcome at the Amat tailgates no matter what positive or negative things they say about their opinions on Amat. In the end they are just doing their jobs. By the way, this week we are having ribs, carne asada, bbq chicken, and of course all the fixins.

  • Royal Blue Thunder

Fred and Aram picked Amat to win but they did not say by how much. There’s been some talk about this going to be a close game. I don’t think this is going to be the case. I think Santa Margarita is a lot better than some people are giving them credit for. As Aram and Fred said, these two teams are very different from last year with the balance favoring Amat. The question is by how much?

    • AramT

Actually I did say by how much … “40-something to 20-something”

      • Royal Blue Thunder

I missed those! But I do agree. What if Santa Margarita beats monster Bishop Gorman? I think they can do it. Not by throwing 5 interceptions of course but they can do it.

        • GP AKA Green Machine

The SGV gets really excited when BA wins that big opener. It’s great for our area. However, the only thing that matters is who beats who in the playoffs. I know we all want quality wins, but in the end it doesn’t matter what your previous opponents did. That is unless you are Division contender and regional bowl contender. BA is already #6. If they take care of business in league they will be a 4 or 5 seed. The goal is to win league, win in the playoffs, and win a title. However, It’s much easier said than done. Especially in the pac 5. It’s too early for BA to worry about anything but Chino Hills. The SM game is done with.

          • 12th man

            Agree~ ¯_(ツ)_/¯

        • 12th man

I don’t think SM can beat BG they just don’t have the play makers (gamechangers) ..They have Sweet & McNichols who can be productive vs sub-par defenses but they lack experience at QB play..Not too take anything away from this kid..give him some time, he’s only a sophomore & is tasting his 1st season as varsity QB..2 more years & he will be one of the top QB’s in the Southern Section if not the country at 6″4 he’s already turning heads in D-1 (recruiters) I’m not an Amat hater or Homer (Aram’s words) I just tell it like it is..Amat should have a good season..There’s only 2 areas in Amat’s game that concern me..(1) Ground game: You need a consistent back (workhorse) who can grind out almost 5yds per carry at any given time vs top quality defenses (pac5)..(2) Defensive Backs: Does the secondary have the speed to prevent big plays? Kyle Sweet who has pretty good speed was almost running circles around them..It’s going to be interesting to watch when they play teams who have true D-1 speed & are considered by many as tops in the country (Koa Farmer-Notre Dame) (Desean Holmes-Alemany) etc..Good thing about football there’s ways too slow these guys down..(double team, bump off the line, pressure QB make him throw from the weak side)..Should be interesting season too say the least..Good Luck~

          • Not So Fast My Friend

I have to second 12th Man’s comment about Bishop Gorman. I don’t think RSM (or SM for those who need clarification) will be able to handle BG. Certainly not this current crop of players. Last year, maybe. This year with a lot of young players, personally, I don’t think they’re prepared for that type of team. Welch and Co will have them prepared no doubt. But until you’ve been in a battle like that, you’re not ever really ready for it.

          • SGV Dad

You are so wrong. Both TD plays for Sweet were broken plays. Get it right buddy. Aside from those 2 broken plays, Sweet was pretty quiet the rest of the game. And by the way, Sweet is considered a D-1 prospect, just look him up. Amat came out flat and fell behind. Once they brushed off the rust, they pretty much dominated the game. As for the running back, Camargo was getting 5-6 yards a carry until he was forced out of the game with cramps, and didn’t play the second half. The weather was hot and humid, which knocked out three or four Amat players with cramps.

          • 12th man

They might have been broken plays? At the same time you could say that Sweet was breaking ankles & making it look like broken plays..give the kid some credit then if he’s a D-1 prospect like you say?(broken play or superior WR routes?)..All I seen were the Amat defenders chasing him & no one could catch him (via Darren Andrews) is the speed DB’s are missing..plus anytime a receiver can accumulate 221 yds @ any level or division..he’s pretty much having his way (doing circles around defenders) No pun intended~

          • 12th man

You’re right about one thing! Amat did dominate the game~

        • Valley Athletics

Going to be hard for them to stop Randall Cunningham JR.

    • haditwiththisfool

      Fred said 2 touch downs.

    • Frank

Lets remember that Amat would of won that game last year pretty comfortably if it wasnt for the officiating. Its funny that Amats games against sierra teams were the worst officiated games of the season, and they still didnt lose either game.

  • AZTEC PRIDE

Hope you smash them AMAT! Put the we should have won to REST!

    • Not So Fast My Friend

You have to love bulletin board material.

      • OuttaYourMindTrib

Stuff gets read. I remember back when Tom Inglima was in his second season as HC at Ayala, the Trib was interviewing Duarte’s HC. He GUARANTEED a win against Ayala. (background: Ayala was coming off an 0-10 season). Well, DuRock didn’t get a 1st Down until the 3rd Quarter when the game was already out of hand.

        True Story.

        • Not So Fast My Friend

The thing about bulletin board material is it’s always guaranteed to motivate someone. Usually the one standing over you after they’ve knocked you out.

Duarte’s HC learned a lesson that night at the expense of his team. I would have LOVED to see him explain that one!

          • OuttaYourMindTrib

I think the kids were plenty motivated from the previous season’s lack of scoreboard success and Duarte’s HC just poured some gas on the fire that was already pretty intense.

I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall in the Duarte locker room at half-time and they had not earned a 1st. down yet.

I don’t know much about that Duarte team that Ayala beat into submission but I do believe they were tops in their Division that prior year.

          • Not So Fast My Friend

            Lesson learned. lol

          • OuttaYourMindTrib

Maybe… Does he still run his mouth wherever he is?

          • GP AKA Green Machine

The previous year they lost to a loaded Verbum Dei team in the Semifinals. If Duarte would have kept that coach, the Canada’s, and all the talent that went over to BP and Monrovia, they would have possibly been a power for a few more years.

          • AZTEC PRIDE

GREEN MACHINE, that was 2006 season and Duarte lost Verbum Dei 48-6.! The Canada’s didn’t show up until the 2008-09 season. Jordan Canada was a freshemen when they played AZUSA for the League title. Check out Canada’s rushing yardage for that game, was in the negative column! Duarte did have this massive lineman called James Harris, i believe that’s his first name and is now playing for the NFL.

          • GP AKA Green Machine

You are right..lol. They had Jermaine Thomas in 2006….They lost VC the same year they lost to Ayala…Thanks for correcting me.

          • Inland_FB_Fan

LOL…That might have been the last time Ayala was relevant. It was usually Tommy Inglima spouting off at the mouth and look where he is now….lol

          • OuttaYourMindTrib

DC for some pretty talented kids at DBHS. Not exactly a promotion but probably not a horrible gig.

          • Inland_FB_Fan

That dude has bounced from place to place….he’s very shady. Wonder if he still likes that “Bulldog Way” Tattoo he got while at Ayala? He’s an A$$.

          • OuttaYourMindTrib

I know LOTS of people that have “bounced from place to place” in their careers. Doesn’t make them “shady” at all.

Bulldog Way tat… meh…. Whatever floats his boat I guess. I would not tattoo the company(ies) I worked for in my careers logos on my body, but that’s just me. Maybe AHS still holds good memories for him.

        • AZTEC PRIDE

Oh I too remember back in 2009 Coach Crutchfield n Duarte were going to smash AZUSA like they did before! Still remember the day Oct 24, 2009 , on my B-day! AZUSA thumped on them 44-6 and went onto to play COVINA in the first round! Aaaaahhhh the memories! Remember Duarte leaving Citrus eyes all glossy and getting on the bus not saying a word! Plus Duarte had that running back that went to S hills when Crutchfield quit Duarte soon after! HOW’S THAT FOR A BULLETIN!

          • AZTEC PRIDE

” JORDAN CANADA” thanks AKA GREENIE! Forgot the runnings back name!

  • Jared Pine

I got to see both South Hills and Bonita last week. South Hills has to be the favorite for this one. Their offense is very good. I really was impressed with their ability to get big yardage both on the ground and in the air. Plus, the way Rodriguez uses Goss makes their offense tough to prepare for. I don’t think Carney will be able put the same kind of numbers against Bonita that he did last week, but that doesn’t mean he won’t be effective. The one thing that makes me think that Bonita could win is Jake Peyton. This will be his first full week of practice with the Bearcats. Maybe that will be just enough to prepare him to have a monster game.

    • D-Mo

Well said Jared (Typical Bonita Homer). SH is going to win and you know it.The only impact Peyton is going to have is that SH will be even better prepared.
      CO!

  • Valley Athletics

No studio guest this season ?

  • GP AKA Green Machine

It’s great to hear Mtown in every conversation…that’s how I like it!

    • AZTEC PRIDE

Just five years ago the conversation about Monrovia being the billycats was the topic in those days, my how times have changed!

      • GP AKA Green Machine

Yeah, we are still on the losing end of some upper division games, but hey for D11 that’s not bad.

  • reality

In case no one noticed one huge factor in Bohi vs SH. Bohi has no kicking game what so ever. No extra points, no punting,no kickoffs, nada. It reeks. Because of this great field position SH will inherit often and with their big O-line having a short field they will punch in all the TD’s they need. I suggest Bohi go for it on every 4th down 2 point extras.

  • jcaz

Well, its a new season, and all im doing is sitting here waiting to hear from Margarita Bill and Warrior fan. Seems like these two have decided to stay low profile so far eh ?
Also, kinda funny to hear Aram say that he’s not a homer, of any local team, and that the way it should be.
Having said that, I was a bit surprised to hear him predict Amat over SM last week, but hey, maybe he’s trying to look good after all these years of mud on his face eh ?
One more thing. Fred was right. Amat gets these big regular season wins, but always seems to end up eating humble pie at the end of the season. Lets just see where we end up in league this year because so far, it seems as if the Serra is simply loaded. In fact, maybe the premier league of the Pac5 so far.

    • AramT

Uh, when has Fred ever said anything this sort “Amat gets these big regular season wins, but always seems to end up eating humble pie at the end of the season.”

In fact, it’s the opposite. He tries to explain away Amat’s postseason shortcomings as it being good enough to just get there.

Not sure what you’re seeing or hearing sometimes, jcaz. And by the way, there’s no mud on my face. I’ve been mostly right about Amat. I would think my track record of success with the Lancers would make you happy since I’m high on this year’s team.

      • jcaz

Yes, you are correct. Fred never said that at the end of the season that Amat would be eating humble pie. I said that. However, he did express the fact that while Amat does indeed come away with big regular season wins, but, at the end of the day, they often falter when they get into the playoffs.
Now, that may not be verbatim, however, the basic fact is that what his stated on one of these videos is in fact very much correct. Cant deny the facts there big guy
Also, ya, this time your right. No mud on your face this time. But look Aram, lets get one thing straight. Year after year, and for what ever reason, you have always, AND I MEAN ALWAYS, been banging on Amat. Nothing wrong with that BTW. After all, as a sports fan and yes, even as a writer, you have every right in the world to like or to even dislike even mother Teresa !! So no harm done there big guy.
But lets face it, what’s really been so irritating (at least for me) is that over the years (and yes, Aram, we do go back a few years dont we ?) is that you do (or did, in the past) come on these blogs hating on Amat.
        Am I right ?
Come on Aram, you know I am. But again, its cool right ?BTW, if I wasn’t correct on this, then why did you feel that you actually had to make that comment about people being so surprised that you actually took Amat in a game ?
        Just asking that’s all…..

  • Valley Athletics

amat jv 41-0 over CH . Freshman also won . Don’t know score for that one .

    • Bishop FAN

CH JV played the band after AMAT and still could not get a first down…..

      • The stands

        Hope the trend continues tonight!
