GLENDORA — Northview High School football coach Marcel Perez believed in the summer this will be a good season for the Vikings.
It’s hard to argue with the early results.
Chris Blackmon and Damien Lavin each rushed for two touchdowns and Northview routed its second opponent in as many weeks, scoring a 45-7 victory over host Gladstone in a nonleague game Thursday night at Citrus College.
Bryan Salinas and Nicholas Ybarra also rushed for touchdowns and quarterback Peter Vandereb passed for 97 yards for Northview, which improved to 2-0. The Vikings held the Gladiators to 81 yards, including just 19 rushing.
Northview’s big win spoiled the debut of Gladstone coach Citos Marinez, who has replaced long-time coach Albert Sanchez.

Northview coach Marcel Perez: We still have a lot of work to do. We still have to work out the kinks, but other than that, I’m pretty happy with the way we are at right now.”
Gladstone coach Citos Marinez: “It probably was a little of both (referring to the blow-out loss). But the best thing that happened to us was that we got some game experience. We have a lot of guys who haven’t played in a varsity football game, so we got some good game experience. We’re going to need this preseason to build ourselves. We got two games to get ready for the Montview League.”
