Tribskin Pick’em: Bishop Amat over Charter Oak (usually money in the bank); Can West Covina hang with Chino Hills?

Aram Tolegian and I will go head-to-head picking football games throughout the season. He edged me out the past two seasons, but it’s not happening this year, not when we’re playing for a Slater’s 50-50 burger.

Aram Tolegian (12-11, last week); (38-27, season total)
Fred Robledo (11-12, last week); (40-25, season total)

Last week: I came into the week with a three game edge and finished sub. 500, one of my worst weeks in Tribskin history, but Aram couldn’t do much better, picking up only a game while I finished 11-12. We disagreed on a record nine games with Aram holding a 5-4 edge in those games. But we both also missed by taking South Torrance over Rosemead, Bishop Amat over Rancho Cucamonga, Bonita over Glendora, Pomona over Bloomington, Claremont over Walnut, Diamond Ranch over Ayala, and Duarte over Montclair.

This week: There’s no bigger game than Charter Oak at Bishop Amat, two teams that have both played extremely tough opponents so far, and two teams that could easily be winless or undefeated. Charter Oak lost in overtime to Roosevelt and 27-24 to Los Alamitos. Bishop Amat rallied to beat Santa Margarita and held off surging Chino Hills before blowing a late lead against Rancho Cucamonga. Both teams score a lot and give up a lot but the bottom line is, Bishop Amat doesn’t lose to area teams. It might be another shootout, but you take Amat at Kiefer. Last week I thought about taking West Covina over Chino Hills, but now I’ve got the Huskies by two touchdowns, maybe three. In 50-50 games, I like Glendora over Ayala, Azusa over Arcadia, Arroyo over Rowland, and Walnut over Covina. In what I believe will be lopsided victories, take Damien over St. Paul, Northview over South El Monte and Monrovia over San Dimas.

No way Charter Oak wins at Keifer. That is the toughest place to get a win in The SGV and maybe Socal.
    BA wins

Bonita must win or they go into league .500 and that is not impressive. However, Claremont is looking for a win as well.
    Bonita Wins

Ayala got a huge win last week. Glendora really wants stay perfect. This one is going to be a even match close game. I am hoping Ayala can pull it out.
    Ayala wins.

Chino Hills is now a top 25 team in Socal. West Co needs to win here or they will be.500 going into league. I don’t don’t know how they do it….
    Chino Hills wins

Monrovia does not need any slippage here. Kurt Scoby, Deshawn Potts and the Monrovia defense are ready. SD is trying not go into league 0-4. Monrovia wins big at home.

Green Machine what’s your prediction on the AzusA vs Arcadia game?

      • observantcat

What’s up Aztec Pride, Don’t drink the Fred Kool aide, this will not be an easy game for Azusa at all. Arcadia will be too big and too strong up front which will keep Azusa stagnate all night with the running game. Arcadia has a decent passing game that will lull you away from you defensive posture and if they get that going the right way with a much slower Aztec team then you guys are in serious trouble. Now in saying that, Azusa could surprise many by hanging around in the first half and making a game of it in the later quarters. But i will go as far to say Arcadia by 21

Good to see another fan from AzusA on here! Hope your right with your prediction and it would be real nice to see AZUSA win!

What’s up! Good to see MONROVIA get respect on here! This team has been good for years! Don’t see haters on here saying to much anymore! Good luck to the Cats and say hello to Coach Schuster for me, he coached my son when he was the head Coach at AZUSA. Good to see him with his rings on his FINGERS!

Fred you and Aram could take opposite picks in all of the games and both of you would end up tied. Thats how much parity there is this year. The good teams are not as dominant and the bad teams are better. Not sure league will be any easier, not in the Hacienda anyway.

  • 12th man

    Chino Hills-42 West Covina-14

    Bishop Amat-35 Charter Oak-24

Good Luck AZUSA! Fred has you winning, Aram has you losing? Going to real tough Friday. Can’t have No turnovers or dumb penalty’s! LET’S GO AZTECS! A win would sit real well for the MONTVIEW LEAGUE!

I agree, the way NORTHVIEW has been playing, they should definitely make this shellacking continue for South El Monte HS.

Azusa> Arcadia. Blackburn and montiel are very good players. But how about that number 5 kid dominic ramirez, very good corner. And a sophmore at that. Big things coming from him.
