Friday’s results
Bishop Amat 45, Charter Oak 21 - Tre Sidney with three interceptions as Amat turns a seven-point halftime lead into a rout.
Chino Hills 52, West Covina 33 The Bulldogs simply couldn’t keep up with arguably the areas highest powered offense.
Arcadia 8, Azusa 7 Aztecs defense played great, too bad their offense didn’t reward them.
Damien 34, St. Paul 18 Don’t look now, but Mark Paredes’ group is gaining momentum with second straight W.
Monrovia 26, San Dimas 13 Was tied 13-13 in the fourth quarter when Kurt Scoby rescued the Wildcats and scored twice.
Glendora 20, Ayala 17, OT – The Tartans remain undefeated with another big non-league win. Too bad the Tartans aren’t in the Sierra, it would be fun.
Covina 42, Walnut 14 — Colts have rebounded nicely from 0-2 start to win two straight.
Diamond Ranch 28, Schurr 0 – Panthers bounce back after last week’s loss to post a shutout.
Los Altos 34, Chino 20 — It was nervous time for a while before the Conqs took control.
Arroyo 40, Rowland 14 – For those keeping score, that’s three straight wins for the Knights, looking like MVL favorites.
Diamond Bar 47, Brea Olinda 0 – This is the Diamond Bar everyone expected from week 1
San Marino 70, Nogales 0 – I hope there was a running clock, no fun getting 70 thrown on you.
Pomona 26, Sultana 13 – The Red Devils remain undefeated, just like Northview and Baldwin Park, the three new VVL favorites, right?
Northview 49, South El Monte 14 — The Vikings haven’t been tested yet, an easy road to 4-0.
Bonita 35, Claremont 28 – The Bearcats trailed 14-0 and rallied late to pull it out.
Sierra Vista 47, Keppel 0 — About what you expected from the Dons.
Rosemead 21, Warren 14 – Finally, after tonight we get to watch the Panthers play some area teams.
La Puente 20, Wilson 7 — My early Montview favorites won again
Pioneer 45, Mountain View 42 — The Vikings had a real shot at winning this, but great effort regardless.

    • SGV FB Dad

I think the CO fans got a taste of what their teams are this season. Both Amat’s JV and Freshman teams beat up on the Chargers yesterday. I actually think the Varsity game will be more competative, but I feel CO nation is very concerned about getting smacked up tonight. My prediction: Amat 35, CO 14.

Cowboys this weekend so a small tune up before the hated 40 fakers . Enjoy the game !!!! One thing is that it is crazy quiet for a game like this . Maybe closer to game time we see more action .

I’m here, soon to be tailgating, my Aztec friend. Go Chargers. Go Aztecs.

          • SGV_FOOTBALL

Whoa, whoa, whoa, hold on 73! There will not be a shutout, CO is win less and very hungry. I really believe they have a lot less pressure than they had last year. Last year undefeated teams, first meeting in almost a decade and a huge media push. A lot of pressure on both teams last year.

          • AMAT 73

            SGV ,
I agree both teams are out to rectify last weeks games and CO has added incentive looking for the first W . I had to throw something out there to if someone would bite . Nothing like years past when it would be a fire storm on the blogs for game like this . What’s up with all the bloggers ???? Seems there’s only a few left from either side and even the haters have gone with the wind .

          • SGV_FOOTBALL

I was thinking the same thing. I think the demographics have shifted in the SGV and even the newspaper is even taking a hit.

So what that means when you get a strong wave of freshman in football you will have involved parents so the next four years are strong on the blog. After that group graduates, the blog suffers. Parents could care less about high school football when their kids graduate.

I think its time for the Tribune to advertise on the stadium fields of all the schools they cover and promote the blog as a sociable way for the readers to debate.

            CO-24 Amat 21

Another close one . The team with the less turnovers will win ..

  • 12th man

Amat will pull out the starters in the 4th..Final: 46-24, Charter Oak will score 14 of their points in last 8min of the game..

    OR

Charter Oak goes too it’s playbook & keeps this one interesting ,challenges Amat punch for punch until the 4th quarter & that’s when Amat’s physical play & home field advantage come into play & they win by 2td’s

    • AMAT 73

      12th,
What team will you give the breakdown on later tonight or tomorrow , enjoyed your take on Alemany last week .

      • 12th man

      • 12th man

Went to the Amat game…No more game breakdowns until league starts (I’m sure you won’t lose any sleep lol..)..but I do have to say that #18 Trevon Sidney just solidified himself as a true legit defensive back in the pac5..Word in the Serra league will get out fast & expect teams to pass on the opposite side~ Hat’s off great performance by this kid (sophomore) in completing the hat trick~

People keep telling me it’s going to blowout, I just don’t see it. I got Amat winning, but like Amat’s previous three games, I expect it to go back and forth.

    • Bishop All Stars

CeeeeeeeOhhhhhhhh you blow, what the heck was that? You all can’t tackle and it was obvious when the truck ran on you for a 70 score. Zion is a baller, but may want to come join us over at AMAT… Hats off to the stud sophomores. Wait though CO brought some of there bigs down to play JV and that did not work either. So what is the excuse going to be now?????

    • rene77

Smh Fred you bombed on this one. CO had me chance and pretty sure you knew it. I think your the PR for CO… Better luck next time

  • rgd2626

    hey 73
is your grandson on the team yet or still?

  • Bulldogs have bite

The Chino Hills vs. West Covina score is incorrect. The Final score was 52-33. Chino Hills is a strong program, very athletic. Bulldogs put up a respectable outing and kept playing hard despite things not looking too good early. Nothing to be ashamed about. CH looks to be the real deal.

    • Not So Fast My Friend

      Saw the score. What happened?

      • Bulldogs have bite

Got down 14-0 in the opening 1:30 of the game. Their offense scored on two plays, we fumbled our 1st possession deep in our own end and they scored the next play. CH has a lot more horses and galloped away at break neck speed with their no-huddle spread offense. WC could move the ball on their Defense, but they tighten up pretty good on short yardage situations. We turned the ball over own downs a couple times in the red-zone and missed two PATs. We just don’t have a strong kicking game as of yet and it’s causing us to leave points on the field. Got to give credit to the Huskies offense, their QB threw several passes to well covered receivers, but the pinpoint accuracy and timing was flawless and it lead to several big plays. We probably will not see a team at this level the rest of the regular season. So it was nice to see us bang with them for a bit. Unlike what Fred said, the late scores were not meaningless. Four minutes left and down 45-33 is plenty of time to make things interesting in today’s era of football. 2-2 going in to league is not bad. The South Hills loss really stings, but playing a DV, Pac-5, and two DII teams should have us more then ready for the Hacienda league play. Scheduling cupcakes for a pretty looking record earns you hype, but playing tough teams earns you championships. Get ready for the wild Hacienda!

        • Not So Fast My Friend

Thanks for the info. Just watched Tom Kiss video and didn’t get much from it. Thanks again!

  • Let Them Play

SD gave that one away. Fumbles, spiked balls on 4th down at the end of the half and of course they give up a 70 yard nail in the coffin to the VERY overrated Scoby. He is not a top level D1 back. He needs space. He can’t create it. He was tripping over his own linemen and getting tackled by DB’s. SD is small. And they kept him in check most of the night. This Monrovia team will be in a fight with South Hills and lose their shorts to St. Francis. Forget about state. If they play Paraclete again in the playoffs they lose. What’s up with playing a freshman Qb. Greenie I’m craving your analysis even you can’t be happy about tonight’s performance. I know your drunk on 3 peat but this is Monrovia team is not as good as any of the CIF teams.

    • Valley Athletics

They still won’t be challenged in the mid valley . Sierra canyon and Paraclete are horrible this year .

    • GP AKA Green Machine

You must have missed one small thing…Monrovia started a Freshman QB is this game and won by 2 scores, that changes the complexity of any analysis on this game…SD put everyone in the box and said stop Scoby…he still had 190 yrds. Who cars it was on 3 runs or 21 carries….That’s more that Payton had verses his former team. Monrovia D also held the saints to a season tying low of 13 pts…Say what you want…Everyone is sure the Monrovia will lose one of the next two games, but as for now 3-0. None of the other Cif titles teams were 3-0 in any of their first 3 games and had 2 losses to San Dimas in the preseason. Winning that game under those circustances was huge and leads me to believe we can win the next two going into league.

      • Valley Athletics

Changes it alot . The only thing defense has to key on is scoby when Potts is out and a new freshman Qb is in . Paraclete is 2-2 and Sierra canyon is 1-3 . So I don’t think they will have a problem winning cif . They probably have to win at least 1 out of the 2 next step up games to secure a state bid. Madison is the favorite being ranked 24th by max preps in SoCal .

        • observantcat

Madison has been moved up to Div. 2 state and are ranked at #7 at the moment

          • Valley Athletics

Chances are better then for state bid.

      • Let Them Play

I’ll see your freshman Qb and raise you 2 Offensive linemen. All league Trujio and Wallace were out and 2 Sophomores made their firs start against Monrovia. You tell me what is more valuable. Is it a Qb who can hand off all but 9 plays off the game or 2 OL who have to block on every single play. Now take into account it’s the Wing Z and it’s complexity and the fact that they are going against 3 time defending champs. Before half, that sack on the second to las play, sophomore tackle missed his assignment. The wedge before that, sophomore guard didn’t block down and SD gets stuffed. All nigh those two made mistakes that cost SD the game. Their mistakes were far more costly than INTs. But everyone talk about a freshman Qb. You can hide a Qb with RBs but you can’t hide linemen

        • Kennedy Bryant

Your funny SD isnt beating MHS anytime soon and hasnt in 3 years. Look forward to loses each and everytime you face MHS.

          • SaintsR4real

Even if im wrong, I dont care the “Aints” aint beating the cats. Any way glad to see you out of the wood works I was worried since you all started so poorly that I would not see you on the blog this year. One thing I respect about you is your love for your Aints. Good luck the rest of the way

  • blue

Azusa vs Arcadia was a great game. Number 5 got robbed for a pic tho. Azusa had the game in there hands. Look out for azusa this year. They have a good squad! Def have my vote in the montview by a long shot

  • SEMHS FAN 3481

Northview, thank you for exposing the problem at SEMHS. The defense is horrible, like kids that came up on game day from the Frosh/JV squads. Something is definitely lacking, offense is just as dull. I could count about 8 plays in TOTAL. no matter what formation that SEMHS took, they played the same 8 plays in different rotations.

It was easy for the Northview Vikings to pick up where Montebello Oilers left off. Northview put up 28 points in the 1st QUARTER alone! By Halftime it was 35-7, and by the end of the 3rd it was 49-7, something tells me there’s something affecting these kids, I hope it’s not the same problems that plagued the team when RJ HERNANDEZ was at the helm for 2 years, which ended with a petition started by the parents to relieve RJ Hernandez of his coaching duties.

I really want to believe Ibis Aguilar has a better game plan than this, because if not, (and like a broken record), say goodbye to any chance at the MVL Title, or even worse, not even making the CIF-SS playoffs. Potential for a horrible season is now upon them.

  • RealTalk

Hats off to WC even with the loss. Two early turnovers and some confusion on the WC defense before the half made the difference. To bad scores don’t reflect toughness and resiliency. WC defense held the high-powered Chino Hills Huskies to one score in the 2nd half. Chino Hills didn’t put in their 2nd unit until the 2:00 min mark in the 4th quarter as well as WC. Bulldogs you played hard against arguably the most high power offense in the league on their home coming night and you showed a lot of HEART! GREAT JOB!!! Now let’s give this Hacienda League a reason to be worried… #LetsGoBulldogs!!! #LOVE1 #JONES2 #LOVE3 #GARCIA5 #TARIN10 #FORD20 #BEST22 #HERNANDEZ28 #FINLEY71 #BULLDOGSDEFENSE

    • WCDan

Great observation realtalk, I saw some signs that WC should be a serious threat in the Southeast this year once they iron out some kinks. Although after that first minute and a half I thought Chino Hills was going to put 70 on us. I like how we battled back though, and your correct, Chino Hills did not let up on the gas till the last 2 minutes when both teams finally put in their back ups.
Our offense will be very hard to stop in the Southeast division, but good teams deep in the playoffs will stop it if WC doesn’t get more flexible and develope a better short passing game to help what is a very good run game. If they can develope more balance with more variety of short quick pass plays to Jones and Love, along with our very good run game, I don’t think anybody in the division would stop them.
After seen what happened this week and last week, the 3 man front that we start out in has to be modified or tossed out all together. South Hills scored quickly and easily on it and Chino Hills scored even faster. Both times we put ourselves into a deep hole, we almost climbed out of it against South Hills but against Chino Hills and their high flying offense, we just got burried to fast and too deep.
The good news is I walked away from that game feeling like West Covina can have a very good season in both league and playoffs
if they keep improving and challenging themselves to get better.

  • Bill

Diamond Bar looks very good. I don’t think any hacienda team could beat norwalk which is their only loss.

  • TruTH

News out of the OC, ex Los Altos coach and Damien coach, Greg Gano, has resigned from Tustin after an 0-4 start

  • Bishop All Stars

Let them play….. 2016, yes sir!!!!!!

    • rene77

Your right! Let them play. So much talent on that bishop amat team it’s redicules… You have so much talent and coaches don’t know how to use there players… Word on the street is Tyler Vaughn is transferred out. Hagerty better figure a way to give more reps to them young bucks or he will have others trasfering as well

      • Valley Athletics

To bad if Tyler left . 2016 players should be patient and work hard . Next couple games maybe the sophs get opportunities to play more . The next couple years will be there time to shine .

        • Bishop All Stars

I have only heard in rumor that Tyler left. You have to understand kids need to feel needed. If it is not there time to shine then leave them on the JV team, but that would be even more unfair as that team could probably give some varsity teams a run for there money. I guess my point is why wait? There is enough love to go around to all.

          • rene77

Very true… If they don’t have them playing and just standing around let them play with JV not Saturdays…

          • Lancerito

Tre Sidney is the real deal. They other sophs will be good players in the future, but they are not ready yet. None of them are better than the upperclassmen in front of them…..period.
I think it would be a very good idea to put them on JV for 2 reasons. For one, they will get more game experience and secondly we won’t have to hear this nonsense on the blogs every week.
Don’t try to capitalize on Tre Sidneys great game to say how good the sophs are. That just means Tre Sidney is the real deal.

          • Valley Athletics

They should be happy they are on varsity as sophomores at a D1 program . There probably some parents of other JV kids complaining about why there kids are not on varsity and so on . Amat has never had this many sophs good enough for varsity . Defensive backs are usually what I’ve seen over the years get playing time . D line is tougher because of the strength and size needed. Qbs mostly as backups . If it is a rumor about Tyler . It shouldn’t be mentioned on blog. Should be a personal matter until its official .

          • Bishop All Stars

Well I think that they need to play before there are more rumors of more kids leaving. It should not matter if you are a senior or a sophomore, if you are better then you play. Besides that the 2016′s are one unit and that goes a long way!

          • GP AKA Green Machine

Play the best players period….all that seniority crap is for the birds. It holds your program back. In BA’s case, playing the young lancers will pay off huge when as the mature.

          • rene77

Oh settle for less??? Aaron,Vaughn , Steve,Jordan,Damien, bradon,Andrew, are all great athletes and are much better than some of these seniors… Tiered of hearing they have to wait there
Turn when these kids have much more talent then the upper class men

          • Valley Athletics

If they are not happy and think transferring is the solution then they should . But seeing what happened to noodles , they should expect the possibility of sitting out this year and 30 days next year .

          • Bishop All Stars

They could just use the scoby rule….

          • Valley Athletics

            Or end up like noodles.

          • rene77

Be carefull of what you ask for if they do it’s because of your comment hahaha

          • Valley Athletics

If they transfer it is not about my comment . If they transfer its because they already had there foot out the door .
