St. Lucy’s volleyball coach Sean Douglas found his star player Veronica LaPierre to be a bit stubborn from his first dealings with her. It was one of her first varsity matches during her sophomore year and Douglas was encouraging her to go for a cross-court shot after she had been blocked trying to go down the line.
He called a timeout and asked her whether she heard him screaming from the sideline or if she was being stubborn. LaPierre admitted it was the latter.
“That’s her personality. She was not going to let that girl beat her,” Douglas recalled.
