Monrovia’s Kurt Scoby, you can’t stop him, you can only hope to contain him ..

“With a back like Scoby, you’re not realistically thinking you’re going to shut him down. What you want to do is contain him and keep him bottled up. You don’t want him to have a 300-yard night on you. I could live with giving him 90-100 yards, but we just can’t give him that huge night.”South Hills coach Albert Rodriguez on Friday’s showdown, South Hills at Monrovia.

If South Hills Coach Albert Rodriguez doesn’t want to give up a lot of yards to Scoby, then he needs to make sure Scobster stays locked in the locker room. lol

All kidding aside, he’s right. You don’t really stop that kid. You try to contain him and that task isn’t easy. You stuff eight in the box, then SH effectively leaves themselves vulnerable to Monrovia’s passing attack. I do not envy Rodriguez or his DC in this game.

What Monrovia has done in getting Scoby is take a dangerous team and make them lethal. Unless they have a total collapse, I don’t see them losing a game all season. And if they do, every other coach that plays them needs to get that film asap.

I was at the game when my brothers team held Lawrence Phillips under a 100. He was a pretty damn good back, so it can be done.

Maybe it’s the film, but with all that bulk I think Scoby has lost a little quickness. Seems like when I saw him as a sophomore playing for CO his moves had more precision and quickness to them.
He does make up for it with power though, he’s like a grown man out there, kids bounce off him like he is the hulk, like a bull running through people in the streets of spain.

It’s probably the film. I watched him this spring at several 7 on 7 events. He’s very quick and that first step is super explosive.

If the CIF can’t stop or even contain Scoby, I doubt the South Hills defense will do any better. =(
