Tribskin Pick’em: Bishop Amat opens Serra as 12-point underdogs at Notre Dame; Damien visits Charter Oak

Aram Tolegian and I will go head-to-head picking football games throughout the season. He edged me out the past two seasons, but it’s not happening this year, not when we’re playing for a Slater’s 50-50 burger.

Aram Tolegian (16-3, last week); (84-40, season total)
Fred Robledo (17-2, last week); (88-36, season total)

Last week: Aram I virtually had the same selections last week with the exception of one game, I took St. Francis while he took Monrovia. We all know how that turned out. The two others we lost were taking Ayala over Kaiser and Damien over Los Alamitos.

amatreadyThis week: The Serra, Sierra and Mission Valle League’s get rolling and none bigger that Bishop Amat’s opener at Notre Dame, where Amat is listed as a 12-point underdogs on Calpreps. 12 points! That may come as a surprise, but the Lancers are giving up a lot of points while Notre Dame’s scoring a lot of points. But this is one of those where I have that sneaky feeling Amat’s defense will rise to the challenge and Koa Haynes, Tyler Vaughns, Trevon Sidney and Co., will do enough on offense to pull it out. In the Sierra League, Damien visits Charter Oak in a match-up that can go either way. But after last week’s Chargers win, I’m sticking with the boys in blue to make it two straight. South Hills opens on Saturday against Chino Hills at the District, a game everyone can watch, but it will probably be a blowout. Chino Hills is too good. In the Mission Valley League Mountain View at Rosemead is intriguing, but I like the Panthers to squeeze it out.

This week vs ND should answer any unfinished questions about the Lancers..although the defense has given up alot of points..that’s nothing unusual for an Amat team or anyone playing in the Serra…playing in the pac5 means..hey! we might give up some points but were also gonna score some points..very seldom do you see a powerhouse pac5 team hold their opponents to under 21points once league starts..Name to watch in this game will be “Koa Farmer” this kid is a beast..good size & speed enables him to just bulldoze over defenders & outrun anyone in the open…This particular game will have huge league implications as will all the rest…but if somehow Amat can pull off the upset over at Sherman Oaks, they will be in a good position to take down 3 time defending league champions Alemany..the Warriors aren’t having a down year..I just feel like this year Amat can match their punches throughout the fight & squeak one out in the final minute @ keifer..first things first~ take care of (NOTRE DAME)..

Koa will need about 60yds rushing at best & not allow himself to be sacked during crucial downs & inside the opponents 30yd line..(field goals could be the difference)

Someone will need to slowdown Koa Farmer..You can’t stop this kid but you can slow him down & keep him around the century mark on total have just given yourself a chance..

Alemany is probably going to be the bigger challenge for Amat. Alemany blew out Centennial, St Bonny, and Narbonne. ND is also very good, but they are more predictable, and if the Amat coaches study the Chaminade film, they should know that the key is shutting down Farmer. Amat needs to take down at least one of these two teams if they want to win the Serra.

Cool. 3 nights of football. Looking forward to seeing the Aztecs play. Then CO smacks Damien on Friday. I hope they keep playing each other in the years to come. That’s always a fun game to watch as it usually gets pretty nasty. Saturday we’ll see just how much of a blow-out SH gets hit with.
BA will have their hands full, but I think they will take this weeks game against ND.

Alright D-MO, Good to see another FAN of the game who wants to watch the D11 AZTECS! TRUE FAN! Just watching Football at Citrus College is better then watching freaking REALITY T.V. anytime of the week! Alright AZUSA, have a good game and let’s wrinkle out all the problems out in these types of games!

AP, it has been fun watching Azusa win games these last several years. Played on the ’75 Aztec team. Yeah, great to watch football at Citrus. Coach Scherf is a friend. Good man. He has kept this program moving in the right direction. Glad to see Aztec Pride has survived over the years.

    Fred J,
Would that be the same Cal Preps that has MTown beating Crespi and had SF winning by only a few points . I like AMAT’s chances on the field because in these games you can throw the predictions out the window . It will be one heck of a game .
