Is Bishop Amat ready for the Serra?

“I think we are where we want to be. I think the six (nonleague) games served their purpose. The next four are going to be the most important of all.” Bishop Amat coach Steve Hagerty.

Story: There were a few unknowns for the Bishop High School football team back in August.
The Lancers, after winning five of six games during the nonleague portion of its schedule while averaging 42 points per game,
appears to have answered its questions, and will likely be one of the favorites when Serra League play opens next week.
Bishop Amat had a passing grade in its final test this week, scoring on seven of its first 10 drives en route to a 48-26 victory at Culver City.

I have a hard time picking them over ND. I’d like their chances a lot more if it was at Kiefer.

This is another tough game for Amat. But really, it’s nothing new. It seems like every one of Amat’s non-league opponents puts every last bit of motivation and desire into “THE” game.

In the Serra, every team feels the same way about EVERY game. That’s why the “worst” team can beat the “best” team from this point on. Amat is as ready as any other team.

Just the mere fact that ND lost last week is motivation for them. Amat’s motivation is the fact that every game counts from this point on. In other words, every team has the motivation to win in this league for one reason or another. I think the desire has always been there for all the Serra teams.

Bishop Amat pretty much handed Rancho Cucamonga the win over the Lancers. They gave 17 pts in the beginning as a free gift. Down 17-0, BA stormed back to lead by two scores only to hand the game right back to RC. Norco is getting a lot of attention after “upsetting” Alemany last week. As good as Norco is and as huge as a win over the Serra’s #1 team, Norco was shut down by Rancho Cucamonga 24-7.

We know from these scores that it’s possible that Bishop Amat has the ability to compete with Alemany. And if you can compete with Alemany, you can compete with anyone else in the Serra (most of the time lol). Amat’s defense has been giving up the big play time and time again…this is a huge concern for Amat’s defense and it will definitely lose you games.

As much as anyone can analyze scores, this is the Serra and every school in the Serra has the ability to win league. Last season, Crespi did not even make the playoffs yet they were able to beat Alemany who won the Serra. Crazy stuff and I’m sure we’ll see a lot more of this stuff this season.

It all starts this Friday when he Lancers take on the ND Knights!!! So Excited!

This will be Amat’s biggest test..some say it will be Alemany but I don’t see it that way..ND style of football this year is i’m gonna cram it down your throat & there’s nothing you can do to stop us.. Their ground & pound game is second to none this year & their offense is well balanced..they can get you through the air or ground it makes no difference to them..Just like the Amat defense this year ND will give up lots of points in hopes they can outscore you in the end..Amat is a 12 point underdog 38-26 so they will need at least 4 stops throughout the game too keep this one close or pull off the upset! I call it an upset only because Amat is verly seldom known for winning the big one on the road…FYI calpreps has Alemany favorite by only one point next week vs Amat…that’s the closest they’ve ever been on calpreps since Alemany joined the Serra League (be prepared for a big finish that night @ keifer)

Ah yes, the Calpreps analysis conjured in a vacuum……
