Friday’s results
Baseline League

Glendora 24, Upland 21Biggest win for Glendora since leaving the Sierra for the Baseline. Tartans a perfect 6-0 and can make a case for being the Valley’s best team.

Sierra League
Charter Oak 35, Damien 7 Can’t believe they’re really 2-5 … I’m a believer and like their chances more and more next week at Chino Hills.
Ayala 17, Claremont 14 — Thought the Bulldogs would win easier, but a W is a W.

Serra League
Notre Dame 31, Bishop Amat 21Bishop Amat can’t run the football, it’s as simple as that. Now they’re 0-1 in the Serra with Alemany at home in two weeks. Not good.

Hacienda League
Bonita 29, Walnut 10 Bearcats trailed 10-9 at half but got it going in the second to stay in the Hacienda chase.
Los Altos 31, Diamond Bar 14 The Conquerors needed it after losing to Diamond Ranch last week. Now the Brahmas must beat Diamond Ranch or they’re in big trouble.
West Covina 54, Rowland 7 No surprise, West Covina usually does this to teams it should do this against.

Mission Valley League
Arroyo 41, Gabrielino 7On paper it looked close, but in reality you knew it would turn out like this.
South El Monte 50, El Monte 20 – Eagles hoping they can beat a sleeper in the MVL, and always helps when you can crush your rival.
Rosemead 34, Mountain View 27, OTNobody ever expects overtime, but we all expected a close game and got one.

Montview League
Bassett 27, La Puente 13 — Biggest upset of the night considering La Puente was chasing a league title and Bassett was near the bottom of the Trib list.
Sierra Vista 34, Ganesha 21 – Dons trying to stay in the playoff picture.

Valle Vista League
Covina 36, Wilson 0 – Easy win for Covina who still has playoff hopes.
Pomona 17, Northview 9Raise your hand if thought Pomona would be 6-0.
San Dimas 70, Baldwin Park 27 You knew Baldwin Park wouldn’t stay undefeated facing San Dimas, but you didn’t know the Saints would drop 70.

    Fred,

How do you predict Amat winning the Serra & in almost the same sentence..well actually the tweet before your predictions you say: (Bishop Amat has to win one of two, either at Notre Dame or home vs. Alemany. They should win final two vs. Crespi and Loyola) Wouldn’t they have to win two of two rather than 1 of 2 to be the “sole possessor” of 1st place?

    • http://sgvtribune.com/ Galileo

for what it’s worth , the Libero and Pudgy have yet to see any of Amats Serra league opponents play a game this year…maybe, just maybe Pudgy is going by the glorified touch football passing league contests that he camped out at all summer long…all in all their predictions are just a one-sided guess!

      • Boycott lacerito

Oh come on you dumb a$$ of course they have seen their opponents. Have you ever herd of hudl??? These guys have been doingthis for years, and combine they have more years doing this higher then your IQ… So sit back and enjoy the ride buddy… Cuz from here on out its going to get good!!!

        • http://sgvtribune.com/ Galileo

just ask them, I highly doubt they have the time to watch the Sierra League games, what with all the JV cross country and water polo they cover, I mean there is only 24 hours in a day..correct

          • AMAT 73

            Galileo,
It’s the Serra League not Sierra , Correct .

          • http://sgvtribune.com/ Galileo

my first rant I had it correct!

      • FredJ

And how many games has the Handyman been too? It doesn’t matter, you compare scores. This is high school football, you don’t sit around in front of your TV watching all the highlights on ESPN

        • http://sgvtribune.com/ Galileo

comparative scores? I can’t think of less professional way to predict the outcome of a game! Calpreps prediction of ND winning by 12 points is not the same thing as making them a 12 point underdog….unless they’re accepting wagers on the game….of course,Cal Preps watches every game live and in person, then reviews the game film too !

    • Valley Athletics

Loyola is also a team that can be in first . Loyola has a big line and can run the ball . I don’t think anyone goes undefeated . I agree with your picks . Home field advantage making the difference .

    • FredJ

Because I’m giving scenario’s. I already picked Amat to win earlier in the week. I think they can go undefeated in league if they get past the first two.

      • warrior fan

LOL…Fred are you that much of a homer you cant possibly think Amat can or will go undefeated in league play. WOW the tribune has lost their marbles between you and 12th man i dont know who’s crazier

        • FredJ

This is the first year in a while I picked them to win the Serra. I just don’t think you guys are that great this year.

      • SGV FB Dad

I see Amat losing to ND tonight, Alemany losing to Amat in two weeks, and ND losing to Alemany. Loyola might be the spoiler in this year’s Serra finale, as I think they are good enough to upset one of these three teams, and make the difference for playoff pairings.

    • warrior fan

LOL did you say Amat beats Alemany hahahahaha since when as a matter of fact when was the last time Amat beat us in the Serra?

      • FredJ

Amat’s never beaten Alemany in the Serra …. but that will change in to weeks at Kiefer.

        • warrior fan

i heard this the last 2 years wait 3 wait this is the 4th lol

          • jcaz

Warrior fan. Welcome back. Sorry I haven’t been around as much lately, but i’ve been kinda busy.
So, seems as if both Amat and Alemany lost last night. Tough game for you guys to lose especially when its against the bottom feeder from the Serra.
Anyway, for what it’s worth, prior to last nights game, I did have Alemany beating Amat this year, but after last nights game, well, anything can happen right ?
Incidentally, some of those games you spoke about, “should” have been Amat wins, but shudda, wooda,, cudda, isn’t the way the games are usually decided by are they ?

          • warrior fan

Thanks for the warm welcome most bloggers doesnt like my company on here and I understand why because their mostly amat fans but never mind that. Truthfully I thought early on we were in trouble this season when we sort of struggled against muir but then we showed flashes of goodness against CC and we were up and down against SB but now im not so sure how we’re going to turn out but the bottom feeders has now takin out two of the best in the serra. Amat played a tough ND team which I thought amat would win just like I thought we were going to win guess I was completely wrong and 12th man was a bit more right with his predictions. But I do think it will be ND AMAT and ALEMANY mmain the playoffs still I just hope for the best now.

      • SGV FB Dad

After looking at the numbers between Amat and Alemany, I see this as the first year Amat beats Alemany in Serra league play. I see it as a shootout, but Amat comes out on top. My reasoning is 1. The game is at Keifer, where Amat has the slight advantage. 2. Amat lost, but should have beaten RC, who easily beat Norco. While Alemany lost to Norco. I understand that teams match up differently against different teams, but staying on the analytical side, the numbers point this year to Amat 35 – Alemany 31.

Also, teams improve as the year goes on, so you would have thought that Alemany not only would have beaten Norco, but beaten them easily.

Amat plays ND today, and then they have a bye before playing Alemany at home. Amat should be ready for Alemany.

        • warrior fan

I dont understand why you guys look at Norco as pushovers or the fact that our non league schedule and victories is much more credible then amats 1 great win over SM and a good win over ch. We beat Cc Sb los osos who fred says isbthe reason why co is still ranked because of that. My point is we been to keifer and won before we was sluggish against a decent norco team who only loses came to two good teams but again predictions means nothing your rc comparison means nothing were the defending legue champs for numerous of years in a row now with consecutive victories over amat at home and away we shall see dont forget amat had a bye before they played us years ago and still came up short

          • AMAT 73

            worrior ,
Who does alemany have tonight ?????

          • warrior fan

            Loyola

          • OuttaYourMindTrib

I think Norco doesn’t get too much serious consideration because of the unceremonious exit of the Gerharts from the program and loss of a 3 year starting QB. So I’d have to say people are surprised at their success.

            Just a guess anyway…

  • SGV_FOOTBALL

Nice shot out by Big Lou and SONDHEIMER on the LA Times Website for Eric Prevost.

    • AMAT 73

      SGV FOOTBALL ,
Told you your team would get it right last Friday .They are a solid team and many are selling them short because of the preseason record . I see them getting the win tonight . Good luck .

    • D-Mo

He’s an animal. Nobody is having as much fun out there as Eric is. Young man loves to hit.

    • Steve Ramirez

One of the top returning wrestlers in the Valley…Might be second to Bryan Salinas.

  • warrior fan

i dont think Amats an underdog in this game ND is good but i say the line should be even

    • SGV FB Dad

I just saw the ND vs Chaminade game last night on prepzone, and I don’t see ND as a 12 point favorite. I think Amat can score as many, if not more points on ND then what Chaminade did (46). The question is whether Amat can hold ND to under that score. I am just not sure that Amat’s DB’s can keep the ND receivers in check. If Amat keeps bringing in the safeties, and leaving the deep ball open, then the corners will get burned. As for ND’s running game, Amat should be able to contain it.

This game is crucial for both teams, because this Serra leaugue is a three team race. I see Amat, ND, and Alemany each losing one game in league. And nobody better sleep on Loyola, because they are a tough team to score on, and they are improving each week.

    • 12th man

Amat 12 point underdog..better yet they’re a 1 point underdog vs Alemany..so you would have to make that game “EVEN” as well wouldn’t you? lol..

      • warrior fan

your going to eat a lot of pie you watch and see

        • Got UR Back

Sorry guys may be a little behind but how did alemany do against Loyola last night? Wait they lost, so shut the have a nice day.

          • warrior fan

who is your team? and yes we lost it happen not too many teams go undefeated in the Serra.

          • Boycott lancerito

When you come to Amat your going to get your A$$ beat.

          • Boycott lancerito

And go back to blogging on your newspaper…we don’t need anymore idiots here

          • Got UR Back

It is the mighty AMAT… I will be right here the day after we whoop your a$$. To remind you of your $hit talking with no ground to stand on.

          • warrior fan

Lol tell me the last time your amat lancers whooped us

          • Got UR Back

            Tide is about to turn

          • warrior fan

i been hearing that since Rio or should i say 9

  • Royal Blue Thunder

Oh man…tonight is Notre Dame’s HOMECOMING.

    • AMAT 73

      RBT,
Don’t see why that should be a problem . Usually in the Serra there are no easy games for Homecoming . Ours is vs Alemany .

  • warrior fan

Fred i just looked at the headline and noticed that you have Amat winning the Serra league. LOL you cant be serious, i mean on what grounds or what makes you think they will win who have you guys proven yourselves against besides SM….No disrespect to CH but theyre no IE power house team at all

    • Steve Ramirez

I have them winning on well. My points of emphasis: I saw Amat last week vs. Culver City, and I saw you guys vs. Muir. From my view, Amat looks better. But don’t take this as personal, just views on paper. Also, remember, championships are determined on green grass/turf (sans Boise State, Eastern Washington and Chaminade), not white 8x10s.

      • warrior fan

i respect your view but did remember muir was the week 1 Culver city was week 5 for Amat did you see us against CC?

    • Not So Fast My Friend

Well I believe you did disrespect them. I don’t think they’re too many teams in the IE that are afraid of you. Certainly not the powerhouses. Maybe you should add CH on your non league schedule in 2014 and find out. :-)

      • warrior fan

LOL….Do you mean like the biggest powerhouse team in the IE Corona Centinnial who we whooped on after we took care of another somewhat powerhouse team “los osos” and yes we lost to Norco it happens but for the last two years we have been whoopin on powerhouses in the IE…. CH wouldnt stand a chance their good but not Pac5 good

        • Not So Fast My Friend

Lol, yeah you got us but Los Osos hasn’t been an IE powerhouse in almost four years. I’ll hold off commenting until you play Bishop Amat. Lol

          • warrior fan

            Okay good luck

  • coachbilly

A young Charter Oak just put on a clinic against Damien tonight. Damien is in for a long season in the Sierra.

    • socrates

The sad truth is Damien is no longer a player in the SGV and is now falling out of the Top 25 instead of the Top 10. Who would have ever imagined the Spartans would fall so hard.

      • Not So Fast My Friend

Damien was and is in rebuild mode. A new coach spends the first year learning his players, their temperament, who’s a fighter and who isn’t. Another year or two they should be more competitive.

        • socrates

          Not true.

          • Not So Fast My Friend

Then besides a lack of overall talent and breaking in a new head coach what’s the problem?

  • 5for5

I would love to know Upland’s last Baseline League defeat?
Although UHS is clearly a disheartened team, the biggest indicator for
me that Glendora is for real is that the red plaid out-hit the green
    paid mightily.

    • LongTimeTartan

Just looked it up on Max Preps, and it was vs. Rancho in Week 3 of the 2010 season. They were on a 12 game win streak in league.

      • 5for5

That’s something, huh. It just worked out nicely for the Tartans to be on Upland’s schedule ahead of Rancho. Now when is the last time Rancho lost in the Baseline to a team other than Upland?!

        • LongTimeTartan

2009, when they lost to Los Osos and Etiwanda.

    • OuttaYourMindTrib

Maybe all those transfers are affecting team chemistry finally. There’s a delicate balance with filling a need and recruiting an entire side of the ball.

      • 5for5

I agree. Maybe chemistry can be built in-season for sports like basketball, but for
football….no way. They have the talent to go 3-2 in league, and I
except that. Anything short, and Upland is going to be a hot-ter bed for
        controversy.

  • Bulldogs have bite

Great win for the Bulldogs last night! I know Rowland is down this year, I counted only 33 players suited up for them last night. I was really disappointed that Dufus is out for the season, he is really a difference maker for them and fun to watch.

I think WC has finally found their QB! Aram, Fred, add this name to your list of super sophomores in the SGV; Isaiah Bravo, 6’1″ 160 lbs. His first ever Varsity start, and on his first snap he flung a 45 yard bomb toss hitting WR/RB Deshon Love in stride for a TD! This kid has a live and accurate arm and stands tall in the pocket! I think the team can really rally behind a QB that can get the ball to our weapons on the outside. 4 TD passes in the first half! I don’t think a WC QB has ever thrown that many TD passes in one half! It’s hard enough to recall how many times we have had a QB throw that many TD’s for a complete game!

Feels good getting that first Hacienda league win. I hope the team continues to grow and build and use this win as momentum going forward. Go Bulldogs!

  • BigFatDaddy

i’m a little confused. i could swear that i saw Tweets from FredJ saying both that Amat was favored and an underdog. either way, you had picked Amat as winning the Serra. not sure why. they had not played the quality of non-league schedule that ND and Alemany have. plus, ND smashed Amat at their place last year. keep in mind that ND’s 2 non-league losses were by fewer than 7 points to 2 teams ranked in top 15 in CA. Amat’s offense is no where near comparable to Chaminade’s.

  • Not So Fast My Friend

No one not wearing rose colored glasses would say this wasn’t coming. Maybe not to Notre Dame per se, but BA was treading water. They’ve been skating by their opponents and weren’t playing that well to begin with. BA is good, but they were vulnerable and you can only tempt the football Gods for so long before they decree enough is enough. Wake up call to the players and coaching staff.

Glendora is very surprising. However since they’ve gotten some stability in their head coaching, those athletes have a chance to do some things. Even more incredible is beating Upland (whose got more issues than a field has prairie dogs) just boosted their confidence even more. Glendora has always had athletes, but a lack of stability in coaching kept them from being focused. They’re focused now.

Charter Oak getting another win may mean they’re finding their stride right now. But that doesn’t mean they’ve crossed the rubicon. Let’s wait a week to see if they can get past Chino Hills before the chest thumping starts. Chino Hills will have something to prove after last years debacle and they have CO at home.

    • patriot_dmo@yahoo.com

I don’t know about Glendora. Surpized for sure. Hard to believe they beat Upland, but I guess Upland has their problems. Not taking anything away from the Tarts – just saying.
Next week the CO / Chino Hills game will be a war. I like what I see the last 2 CO games. There’s plenty in that play book and the Chargers are really starting to click.
Going take a close look at Chino hills tonight. Hopefully SH will give them a run for their money.

      • Not So Fast My Friend

From what I was told South Hills did until midway thru the third quarter. Toss in some questionable play calling by SH in the 4th and it probably wouldn’t have been the score it was.

  • warrior fan

If Amat cant run the ball there is no way Amat beats us.
