VIDEO: CIF talking with Diamond Ranch and Diamond Bar about Friday Night’s Brawl

The end of the Fox Sports Video shows the fight between Diamond Bar and Diamond Ranch. CIF is aware of the incident and has been in contact with representatives for both schools. If anything happens as a result, it probably won’t be ruled on until at least Monday. For now, fast forward to the end of the video and you be the judge.

“We are aware of the situation and are awaiting incident reports from the officials assigned to the contest.” CIF spokesperson, Thom Simmons

The CIF-Southern Section was in touch with Diamond Bar and Diamond Ranch high school officials Saturday morning as part of its initial investigation of an on-field brawl between the schools’ football teams during a Hacienda League game Friday night.
The teams game was halted with a little more than three minutes left by game officials after the melee occurred with Diamond Ranch leading, 34-20.
Diamond Ranch coach Roddy Layton said three of his players received injuries from the fight and were unable to perform their usual Saturday duties. Layton also said a parent of one of the players may file criminal charges against an adult who allegedly forced a Diamond Ranch player to the ground.

Terrible tease Freddie. The video stops with 3:23 to go. Could sense fireworks were coming though?

    • FredJ

Joe, that’s amazing. I watched the whole thing before I posted it. I Guess Fox decided to censor, ending the video before the fight starts.

      • PatrickHT

Gamer has it pretty accurate in the version i saw

        • Valley Athletics

The diamond bar walnut patch says Peterson said something after getting tackled and the d ranch player pushed him . Then broadus took a cheap shot at someone which escalated the fight .

          • PatrickHT

That means the player that pushed Peterson initiated the 1st physical contact if Peterson never laid hands on him

          • Valley Athletics

It says after that push they thru the flag and D ranch player walked to the huddle . broadus then thru a cheap shot punch and that escalated it .

          • Nomoredrama

Yep, if you watch the lower left corner of the video, just as #54 is being pulled away by his teammates, you will see Broadus throwing a cheap shot to the back of a dranch player. THAT is was escalated the situation.

          • Stop the spin

He probably said something like, “Why do keep putting cheap shots on me”?

          • Stop the spin

The Ranch Patch is incorrect, Peterson said absolutely nothing to Preston. The Ranch Patch is practicing irresponsible journalism by not confirming their information or just flat out making up what they report.

          • RobertLiang

That is what I hear from several players on our (DBHS) team as well.

On the diamond bar walnut patch site there is a good discussion and pics .

        • Stop the spin

You mean the DRanch spin on what they wish had happened? Those of us on the South side of the tracks here in DBar often refer to the Patch as the Ranch Patch.

  • Gamer

54 punched and kicked db qb number 14 to start

  • Gamer

Meaning diamond ranch 54 kicked and punched number 14 on diamond bar while down
    , this started it

  • Gamer

Number 9 on diamond ranch and number 2 on diamond ranch seem to be the ones who threw the first punches.

  • reality

Either way I blame coaches, especially the ones that are supposed “educators” for failing to instruct discipline and personal conduct and leadership. These educators were inciting trash talk by engaging in it themselves at opposing coaches and players. If you were on the field you could see the insanity before the kick-off, not from players but from the coaches. I’m not calling out all of the coaches but the instigators know who they are as well as the others on their staff know who they are.. Understanding how to lose a “GAME” with dignity is sometimes more important that winning and looking like a fool. I hope lessons can be learned. This goes much deeper than who kicked who first.

    • PatrickHT

Then why you pointing fingers at one side if your really believe it went beyond who kicked who first??

      • reality

Not sure what you are asking me. Exactly what part of my post upset you or you believe is wrong. Is it that I hold some coaches accountable? If I do and you don’t that’s ok. That’s what the blog is for.

    • Inland_FB_Fan

Tom Inglima is a top notch A-hole. He has been that way at ALL the places he’s been. Makes you wonder why he has to change jobs so much huh?

Is this my homie from SOUTH CORONA???

Thank You! Im glad im not the only person that feels that way about him and knows his past.

It appears after watching video in full that diamond ranch started it. It was on diamond bar sideline so it looks as though diamond bar players were out trying to protect players from the punches from number 2,3,9 and 46 from diamond ranch. Number 2 from diamond ranch was going ballistic and looked as if he was going to fight the whole team. A coach was trying to contain which appears to be number 2 on diamond ranch, but not for sure what player.
All emotions were high. Learn from it all. I think the game that was played should be the forfeited as it wasn’t complete due to brawl.

    • Stop the spin

Isn’t #2 on DRanch Salguerro? Wasn’t he expelled last year from DRanch for getting into several fights on campus? Wasn’t he also kicked out of additional schools in the Inland Empire after being kicked out of DRanch? How is that kid back in uniform at DRanch? I guess Roddy will do what ever it takes to get his key players back in uniform.

      • Lancerito’s Buddy

Lets try to keep the kids names off the post, whatever the case may be. I am sure the CIF will get it right.

        • Stop the spin

It isn’t too hard matching numbers to names on Maxpreps or programs. The kid in question is very well know to all in Diamond Bar.

          • Lancerito’s Buddy

Understood, but you dont need to bring up the names further.

          • Boycott lancerito

Yeah but don’t be that guy dumb a$$

      • Boycott lancerito

Come on keep the kids names off the blog.. You wouldn’t want people to point out your kid.

        • PatrickHT

Why not?? Cordell Broadus name has already been spilled on the boards!

          • Stop the spin

Your absolutely correct Patrick, in fact Cordell has NEVER been in trouble at DBar and has ZERO videos of himself posted on Youtube engaged in on campus fights.

      • Nomoredrama

Wow, did you just go there? I hope you are a student and not someones parent. He obviously was cleared by cif to play. And if what you have put out there is true, he will fit right in in the NFL, cause lets face it, football is an aggressive violent sport. What do we football fans like to watch….the hard hit videos put to music.

  • Gamer

My apologies as number 29 appears to cause more punches than previous thought. Diamond ranch number 29 was being held down by a coach because he would not stop, it shows he even continues after being guided away from db side. Signing off now. Moving on

    • Boycott lacerito

Wow if you don’t, maybe you should become a detective cuz you broke it down!!! Viva bishop amat can’t wait till friday

    • Nomoredrama

#29 is the player who covered Broadus all night and he is the one Broadus cheap shot from behind. So how would you react if you were attacked from behind? The altercation between db qb and dr #54 was face to face, man to man, but to be sucker punched from behind….i’m just sayn….

      • Stop the spin

Altercation? You mean cheap shot by number 54, right? and not the 1st one of the night for that kid. He put at least 4 or 5 cheap shots on the DB QB during the night.

        • Nomoredrama

If you look closely at the video, after the run, db qb jumps up and is in the face of dr #54 and thats when dr #54 pushes him down. Im not saying dr #54 was right in what he did, but, it wasnt like getting punched with a fist from behind! which is what happened to dr #29 by db #21. If #54 was putting so many cheap shots on qb, why didnt the refs call them, i dont recall any roughing the passer calls or unnecessary roughness called except one.

          • Spectator

Really??? Players push each other on the field all the time, and never end in a brawl…However, getting sucker punched from behind by DB #21 Broadus just because DR #29 did a great job covering him during the game is what started it all!! How ironic that this is the second week in a row that a DB game has to be stopped because of fighting!! Seems that the common factor here is DB people!!! Now all of a sudden the video is gone???

          • Survey says

WOW, you might want to take those Panther Blinders off and join the rest of us in reality. And yes, #54 was previously flaged for roughing the passer earlier in the game and got away with several other calls during the game. A Dranch player even took a cheap shot at the QB long after the Ref blew a play dead earlier in the game and almost seriously injured the QB’s knee.

  • Stop the spin

DRanch coaching staff in the Press Box on the Diamond Bar side continued throughout the night to heckle and taunt Diamond Bar parents which is something that I have never before seen at a High School Football game. I can’t imagine that the attitude of the Dranch Head Coach and balance of the Dranch Coaching Staff is/was any different from the 2 clowns from sitting in the Press Box.

    • Lancerito’s Buddy

Come on folks, D Bar was losing and resorted to fighting… That is not the answer. Cant we all just get along and play some football???

      • Stop the spin

If you had been there you would have a different point of view. The seeds of the fight were planted by the classless Dranch Coaching Staff and Players long before the fight erupted. Constant cheap shots by the Dranch players was going to cause a fight sooner or later.

        • Lancerito’s Buddy

Would you expect anything less. Thats how the Walnut/Dbar cowboys teach the youth to play and it rolls up to high school.

          • OuttaYourMindTrib

That unfortunately is not the first time I’ve heard that very same allegation leveled against DBW JAA. Would be extremely disappointing if that is the case. Some very good programs have proven you can be exceptional without resorting to playing dirty.

        • PatrickHT

          Thank you!

  • Bryan

Diamond Ranch players act like pit bulls. I am not saying all the players. But number 29 and number 2 were a real threat to diamond bar players safety. A coach had to contain number 29 then a dranch coach had to take him away. It was a situation where diamond bar players were needing an intervention from stopping some of these players out of control. It looks like diamond br players were trying to protect their players from the violence starting. Number 2 and number 29 from diamond ranch appeared to be violently assaulting diamond bar players. This is what I saw and I am neutral in this.
Diamond ranch has been known for being dirty and I saw with my own eyes.

    • Nomoredrama

Again, video shows db #21 throw a punch to the back of dr #29, Who had covered him all night. I dont have a kid on either team, but, if my kid was sucker punched like dr #29 was, i would expect him to defend himself. Now punching some one with your fist from behind…thats dirty!

      • Survey says

The video doesn’t show what happened between those kids just prior to entering the picture frame.

      • PatrickHT

You missed quite a bit if thats all your claiming you really saw!

  • Bryan

Just a few plays back, it was started by number 54 on diamond ranch kicked and pushing number 14 on db while on the ground. This started the whole thing.

  • Bryan

Number 46 from diamond ranch actually did the first pushing of number 21 before the number 29 push

  • Coach M

CIF needs to DRUG TEST every player who threw a punch in that fight. Their uncontrollable actions warrant enough probable cause for STEROID use.

    • OuttaYourMindTrib

I’d test every HS Athlete in every contact sport at least twice during the season and up to 4x during the offseason but that’s just me.

  • Coach M

CIF should test every player involved for PED’s as a condition of re-instatement. And if more than one kid on either team tests positive, then the Head Coach should be suspended the rest of the year.

    • 2nd that thought

Excellent idea Coach M. PED use at some high schools is at epidemic levels these days and many of us parents know exactly who these cheaters are, yet CIF turns a blind eye and some coaches are even complicit in their players use.

  • SGV 4 30 Years

So how many of us are to surprised by this fight? I for one am not. I think both teams are dirty and undisciplined. The amazing thing is that the Administration from both schools have allowed this to go unchecked. I want to know how either school is going to play their next game. Everyone who threw a punch will be suspended for the next game. Also anyone who leaves the bench area is supposed to also be suspended. From what I’ve seen that may not leave enough players to field a competitive team, Especially with the play offs on the line. It will also be interesting to see if either principal will have the guts ( I can’t say balls in either case) to impose their own consequences on those involved, or the coaches who basically set the tone from the moment the teams stepped on the field. The players will only do what they are allowed to get away with. I’ve never seen a player take the ball and punt it after being tackled. That is until I watched that game. To me that tells a lot about respect for your coaches, family, the game, and sportsmanship. Next year instead of the Battle of the Diamonds, How about “The Battle of the Dirties”.

So Reality, I hear ya on this one you hit it right on the head.

    • OuttaYourMindTrib

Dirty Bar vs. Dirty Ranch has a nice ring to it.

    • xiledsoviet

I doubt there will be a next year

  • Bryan

From what I saw a drug test then should be done on number 29 and number 2 on diamond ranch. I have not witnessed that type of aggressive behavior toward an entire team. It looked like it would of or could of turned very bad had the team members and coaches and admin not intervened. Those two players were completely out of control.

  • PatrickHT

You mean to tell me DR and Layton are claiming to be ALL beat up?? Yeah right!

  • SGVSports

The Pomona Wilson game also had a bench emtying brawl. Two players were kicked out of the game, one being the starting running back for Wilson (like it really matters).
Since neither Fred nor Aram is going to report on the 7-0 Pomona team so I will. Their starting quarterback is out for the season with a broken collar bone, suffered in the first half of last weeks victory over Northview. They are starting a sophmore quarterback. The key to the Week 10 San Dimas/Pomona game is the quarterback positiion. Pomona clearly has way more talent and team speed than San Dimas, but that hasn’t stop San Dimas in the past.

  • socalspeed

This is not new for Diamond Bar as of late. Their JV team got in a fight over at Los Altos, 2 weeks ago. If you see the film from the game this past week, #54 pushed the QB and walked away. A 15 yard penalty at best. DB #21 throws a Haymaker to the back of the head of #29 on DR. That is what started the brawl. Not #54. Pushing and shoving happens all the time. Throwing punches doesnt. #21 was obviously upset that he hardly got thrown to and when he did, #29 broke up majority of the plays. Then after the skirmish, DB Parents running on the field, what a joke!!! Also after the scuffle, DR coach had team in control and on a knee while the DB sideline was out of control, kids spread out milling around. Including #21 and #24 acting out to their buddies how they were punching and swinging during the fight. I dont know much about DR or DB but from what i saw DB is a program lacking class and their head coach appears to have no control over his players and staff!

    • Get a clue

Hey Dranch Homer AKA Socalspeed. What the video doesn’t show is what happened between DBar #21 and Dranch #29 just prior to entering the video frame. And if #29 was is so good then why did he have double coverage help on #21 all night long? Just so you know, and can now stop repeating the same post time and time again on both the Patch and this blog, those adults going over the fence were off duty Sheriffs that were called to duty.

      • Nomoredrama

No matter what happened between #21 and #29 before that frame, #21 still threw a cheap shot when #29 had his back turned. And that is evident in the video, no matter how you try to slice it. The post on The Patch is someone who says he was on the sideline working the chains and that he is a Dbar parent. The video on The Patch is a Vine so it is very brief, its recorded from the Dranch side, and the one thing it does show is that the majority of the Dranch players remained on their side of the field.

      • Mike Hopper

If of those parents was a off duty sherrifs then they better start laying off the donuts on of them had to be 350lbs at least.

  • RobertLiang

Regardless of who started the fight (which according to several players I’ve heard from on DBHS, was #21 on our own team), you throw a punch, you should be suspended if not kicked off the team…PERIOD!

But it doesn’t surprise me that DBHS waits for the CIF’s decision instead of taking action themselves. Our school lets football players get away with everything that ordinary students would be punished for.

    • INTEGRITY

I AGREE. FOOTBALL PLAYERS SHOULD NOT BE GIVEN OR GRANTED
DIFFERENT OR PREFERENTIAL TREATMENT. THERE SHOULD BE ZERO TOLERANCE FOR
THIS CONDUCT AND BEHAVIOR ON OR OFF THE FIELD! SOME OF THESE PLAYERS
SHOULD BE COMPLETELY REMOVED FROM THE TEAM.
IT WOULD SEND A CLEAR MESSAGE TO ALL PLAYERS THAT THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE
      BEHAVIOR. PLAYERS SHOULD BE HELD
      ACCOUNTABLE, BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY, COACHES.
THIS NEGATIVITY COMES FROM THE COACHES. HYPE UP THE PLAYERS TO PLAY
FOOTBALL, NOT HAVE AN ALL-OUT-WAR. THIS
MAKES BOTH SCHOOLS LOOK POORLY. CIF
NEEDS TO START DISCIPLINING HEAD COACHES TOO.
ONCE THEY LEARN WHAT IS AND IS NOT ACCEPTABLE ON THE FIELD, THEIR
      PLAYERS WILL LEARN TOO.
