Pomona football looking for first league title since 2003 when it visits San Dimas

PTOWN

STORY: Manny Lua stood on a sideline at Covina District Stadium as Pomona High School squared off against Northview. He was injured in the first half, sustaining a broken collarbone so severe that a bone was nearly protruding through the skin. Pomona coach Aaron Jamieson tried to convince his junior quarterback to go to the hospital, but to no avail.
Lua eventually watched the Red Devils secure a 17-9 victory, then he went to the hospital. He wanted to be there to help his successor — sophomore Darreon Lockett.

Fred, that you for giving Pomona some much deserved PR.

  • Saint Parent

Fred…your title in the Pick Em cracks me up.”Pomona will SHOCK San Dimas.” So dramatic, yet everything you say and write suggests Pomona should beat them. You have them ranked higher than SD in your polls, you have them picked to win the game. CIF has them higher in the polls. You say PHS athletes and spread offense will give SD problems. You say experience in big games means nothing for the players because they come and go, therefore the fact that SD is the defending league champ means nothing. SD is 5-4 playing against the higher ranked and undefeated PHS Red Devils. We have never played that game before…Wait…Northview undefeated and ranked #2 @ District Field (Win). Wait…Baldwin Park undefeated and ranked #5 @ Baldwin Park HS (Win) and now come the Red Devils undefeated and ranked ahead of us except this time in our own house. Is Pomona the underdog that will “SHOCK” San Dimas or is it the other way around!!!

    • FredJ

Your a coach, you can play reverse psychology all you want. No matter what the polls, if you asked most people, San Dimas is favored. I ranked Pomona ahead because they’re in the same division and league and one is 9-0 and the other is 5-4. Not like comparing 5-4 Amat to a Valle Vista league team.

      • Saint Parent

First off…not a coach (nice try) just a parent with the ability to pull statistics and numbers from Maxpreps and Calpreps which I learned about from the blogs as well as info from other bloggers. It’s amazing the info Greenie, observecat, sgvsports, and others get that turns out to be pretty accurate. Couple that with following the right people on Twitter and it’s amazing how much info you can get. Second… I’m excited about your article next week about the turn around of the SD program this year after losing their best player to Bonita, Shake gate, going 0-4 and being unranked to going undefeated in league, getting the # 3 in CIF with a first round home game, and proving Fred R wrong for the second time his season when he picked against them. Especially when he said he wouldn’t do it again after the Northview game. That’s going to be a great article. Looking forward to it #excited

Hey Coach it was nice seeing you yesterday can’t wait to see you tonight :)

          • Saint Parent

Check the time stamp, I wrote that just after 3pm yesterday, around the time of kick off at both games so again no, I’m not a coach. Believe me, I avoid being near or around Pomona like you guys avoid a challenging preseason schedule. Looking forward to tonight though

          • SirRedDevil

When did I ever say I seen you in Pomona coach hmmmm…???

          • Saint Parent

Your comment “Hey Coach it was nice seeing you yesterday can’t wait to see you tonight :)” insinuated that you saw me at either the JV or Frosh game, neither of which I was at. I also stated that I posted around the time of kick off at BOTH games, so unless coaches make a habit of blogging during games your rationale doesn’t make sense. Way to go Inspector Gadget, try again.

          • SirRedDevil

Okay coach I mean “Parent” see you tonight I will be sitting on San Dimaside tonight wearing Pomona gear hope to talk to you in person.

          • Saints Parent

And why would you do that???

          • SirRedDevil

To show my support but don’t worry there will be 30 of us sitting on SD side.

          • Come on

That sounds like a typical PTown move. SD biotch slaps PTown in this one. The second SD gets on top, Ptown will throw in the towel. PTown has played NOBODY this year and has no idea what it takes to play from behind or how to pull out a tough win.

          • SirRedDevil

Okay let’s end this convo right now name 1 just 1 quality opponent from your schedule that you BEAT (Keyword: BEAT) I’ll wait….

          • Saint Parent

            SHHHHHH…Scoreboard!!!!!!

          • SirRedDevil

            lol I will for now….

          • Come on

And no, your not as fast as DBar, MTown, DRanch or even Los Altos

          • Come on

PTown folded like lawn chairs on a summer night. And your right, we still haven’t beaten a quality team, maybe next week?

        • FredJ

I believe you also said you watched three or four tapes of Pomona … interesting.

          • Saint Parent

The name Saints Parents suggest I have a kid in the program and therefore I have access to his Hudl account. Come on now, you have got to be smarter than that. And click on my name and read my previous posts, I never said that.

          • Saints Parent

Don’t get us confused there Freddie Boy….

    • AMAT 73

      cover2 aka saint parent ,
But if Pomona beats SD won’t YOU be SHOCKED ??????

      • Saint Parent

Amat73 aka Not in the Playoffs… The answer is a resounding YES!!!

      • Saint Parent

The question now is was Pomona “SHOCKED” at how bad they got beat

  • Saints Parent

Not to be confused, this is great. Look forward to a good game and has been a great season for Pomona and their very fine young coach. Bottom line, nobody wants either one of these teams in the first round of the Playoff’s, or second round….

  • SGVSports

Freds comments are based on Aram and Steve’s predictions, according to them Fred is taking the dark horse.

  • Valley

Thanks for the article Fred. You don’t think that 2003 and 2002 still looms in coach Z’s head. Those were Pomona’s 1st 2 seasons in the league and they beat Z’s Northview team. Trust me, it ain’t happening again. I think you are going to see the real Saints tonight. They don’t like Pomona and they are looking to pound the daylights out of them. Pomona be ready to feel a beat down tonight and no matter how much speed you have, you won’t be able to runaway from the physical assault.

    • SGVSports

      Valley,

Obviously you haven’t seen Pomona play, the physical part of the game is all POMONA. Don’t want to see you on this blog tonight crying about PHYSICAL football.

Take you back to 2011, don’t forget who got taken off the field in an ambulance. That is how this Pomona team hits, good clean physical football.

Saint Parent – Since you are part of the coaching staff over at San Dimas you can give Coach Z a message. Now that all his off the field attempts to slow down Pomona failed, we can resolve this on the field. So man up and come play with the big boys.

    • SirRedDevil

“Physical Assault” yeah you’re corny! lol

  • GrimReaper

    Same old–same old

San Dimas just expects to win. The Z wing and back to the past in a cloud of dust. But it is all so simple, that is why the double wings petered out in the 1930′s-1940′s

As a defense you just have to control the tackle box-hole and keep the contain. If Pomona and or anyother opponent has the personnel to stuff the tackles and force the ball into the middle of the field, It is game over. If SD can clear out the 5 and 6 holes then the 5 yard and plus runs will fall like rain. It is all so simple.

Problem is most teams operate against spread and pro style offenses, and the wing style offense is confusing with the counter plays it lives on. If you control and contain, then the middle linebackers can play it nose into it. Pomona needs to step up, crowd the box and take away their No 1 plays and force them to beat you by the air, something they are not as good at. If SD then can pass good for them, they should win.

Meanwhile maybe the fans can enjoy some bench clearing brawl and both Pomona and SD will be man down in the first round

  • Beach Rat

Fred keep picking against the saints please. Red devil and sir red devil and all Pomona, it was a beat down. We kicked you butt. Thanks for showing up though. Have fun playing in the “who cares” league with Bassett and Garey. Adios and good riddance.
