ST. MARGARET’S 3, NORTHVIEW 0
COVINA —
Northview High School opened the CIF-Southern Section girls volleyball playoffs Tuesday by shocking Garden Grove League champion Bolsa Grande during the first round.
St. Margaret’s wasn’t about to be victim No. 2.
Gabby Benck had 15 kills and Peighton McRobie had eight and the Tartans overwhelmed the host Vikings en route to a 25-12, 25-10, 25-18 victory in a Division 3A match.
Emily Miller also had seven kills for St. Margaret’s, which improved to 14-11 and will host either Aquinas or Morro Bay in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
Northview, getting six kills from Elizabeth Velasquez and four each from Amber Kemper and Raquel Tirado, finished 14-10.
Northview coach Marissa Baker: “I knew going in that St. Margaret’s had a good volleyball history. I knew we were going to have our work cut out for us. But our girls came in with a positive attitude, and they left it out on the court. (St. Margaret’s) was the better team tonight. We learned a lot, and I’m proud of the way they played.”
