  • The stands

La Serna vs Diamond Bar sure looks like an interesting game to watch now.

    • LA Dad

I dont think D Bar is going to give La Serna a game. As a Los Altos Fan, I am glad that La Serna is in the other half of the bracket.

  • 626

The two “worst” leagues in the Southeast, the Pacific and Del Rio combined to go 4-2 in the first round.

The three “best” leagues, the Hacienda, SGV, and Suburban? 4-6.

    Interesting.

    • The Chef

      How is the Koolaid?…

      • 626

        Ohhhhh yeaaaahhhh

    • The data

I think you would need to analyze the data closer to come to any kind of conclusion based on lumping 3 leagues together and saying they under performed. The Hacienda went 2-2 and one of those loses was the wildcard team (Westco) having to play the #1 seed (Norwalk). The only disappointment out of the Hacienda was DR, and DR just never looked the same after the :”brawl game” vs DB. The Del Rio went 2-1 which was bolstered by that surprise win of SF win over DR (FYI, Calpreps had the Del Rio as the #2 league in the Hacienda) The Pacific went 2-1 with an expected Muir victory and and a fortunate match up for Burbank over a 5-5 Mayfair team. The Suburban went 1-2 (no surprise) which really had only 1 good team that being Norwalk, and the SGVL went 1-2 but 2 of their loses were to tough match ups vs the Hacienda. In the end, if DR hadn’t laid an egg vs SF things pretty much would have worked out close to as anticipated or at least in a way that nobody would have been surprised.

      • 626

Good break down and great points. I will see say though that the Calpreps league ratings have changed since I checked them a week and a half ago when the Del Rio was ranked 4th and the Pacific was ranked 5th in the SE. And the SGVN guys have been saying all year that the DR and the Pacific were the weaker leagues. Btw, I still think those leagues are the weaker leagues from top to bottom…well at least the Pacific. And you’re right, DR’s game was a huge disappointment…I wonder what happened? But bottom line is they did lay the egg, and a Del Rio team was responsible.

In the end, it doesn’t say much either way….just wanted to note that it was an interesting stat after Week 1 in the playoffs.

        • The data

Agreed, and I’m still scratching my head over the DR loss. Spoke with a couple different people that I know over at DR and they both said that their coaching staff was completely clueless and was totally out coached. Both my contacts said this was by far the best and most balanced class of kids to come threw DR ever and CRL had no idea what to do with this talent on the offensive side of the ball.

          • 626

Quite unfortunate. Don’t usually here that about Roddy and his crew. Thought they’d at least make it to the semis. Maybe next year…

          • Exiting Panther

No chance we make it to the semi’s next year. We lose 90%+ of our weapons when this class graduates this spring. This was our year, we had by far the most talent in the league and division and threw it all away. If I didn’t know any better I would say that Santa Fe was in our huddle for every play call because they sure looked like they knew exactly what we were going to do on every play. Every year we get to the playoffs and get killed in the 1st round because we have the worst coaching staff in the entire sgv. What the heck is coach roddy going to do next year when he has average to below average talent and a charter oak, west covina, and los altos team that would like nothing better then to run up the score on us. My prediction based on whats coming up from 2015 2016 and 2017 classes is that we don’t see the playoffs for at least the next 4 years.

          • PantherPride

CLUELESS is an understatement. I’ve been front row center to this show for 6 years and have seen EXTREMELY talented classes go belly up early in the playoffs. CRL does have his heart in the right place as far as caring for the kids, but his support staff is a complete JOKE! This was evident when Al Brown left. There is no place in HS ball for daddy coaching and the longer we let this go, the less chance of getting back to the Championship game we will have.

  • Boycott lacerito

Fred, I know the lancers are home watching TV but you have to admit its pretty boring without AMAT in the picture, doesn’t creat much it’s on the blogs (yawn)

    • The Chef

Fortunately the Trib has had several years Without AMAT really showing up in the Playoffs, so they have been able to plan for the reduction in egotistical, whining, self serving, dismissive, arrogant, obnoxious AMAT fan posts… I hope that we will all be able to survive without the AMAT entitled Superiority influence… OH my, what will we all do?…

      • Here’s JOHNNY, or Little Johnn

hey chef ramsey??? we missed you too, BOZ0!

      • Boycott lacerito

Chef Ramsey arrogance?? It’s called confidence. Go back to the kitchen

        • The Chef

Boycott it is called low self esteem or short man (or short lancer) syndrome… You were probably not breastfed and obvious your ego and your equipment both suffer from your severe short comings.

      • AMAT 73

        chef,
No worries you are filling in nicely .

        • The Chef

i could never match your arrogant, entitled, delusional, dismissive, obnoxious, self serving and totally incorrect drivel re AMAT

          • AMAT 73

            chef,
Oh really , how about that reply to WC Dan on another thread. Don’t kid yourself , you are all that and more .Just at a lower level . HAHAHAHAHAHA

          • The Chef

And don’t fool yourself Gasbag. You are a puffed up has been wannabe deluded fool. Why don’t you actually come out of your hole with some actual dialog beside your standard “I know you are but what am I” like you 5 year old grand child. You don’t seem to have JOFFA to hold your nads or any of your packin’ buds to tell you what a superior pedigree you have. You are just a air bag far gone from any real accomplish but desperately hanging on to the deluded idea that you are great because you once were great and not comprehending why everyone won’t just buy into your hot air,,,, Well Gasbag it is because it is no longer true. 1st accomplish then ask everyone to recognize… You fail then ask everyone to remember… I won’t drink your really old koolaid and I don’t buy your really old and tired and weak BS. So go laugh on that Gasbag

          • AMAT 73

            chef,
My ,my, did you burn your toast this morning !!!!!! Don’t get mad because you get called out on being arrogant , obnoxious and other traits you accuse others of being . Must be true otherwise why come on here showing just how butt hurt you are by my post . Must have stuck a nerve , I bet it was that lower level comment , I could have said little lancer but I felt lower level was the relevent wording being a pun intended . Now go burn your eggs to match that toast of yours . Figure out the pun meant by burnt toast with that pea sized brain of yours .

          • The Chef

Gasbag your the one with the hemorrhoid that ANYONE would point out that your main mancrush AMAT has not had any success in playoffs for several years and the blogs is getting along well without them. You consider this truth to be obnoxious because you fail (refuse) to recognize the truth that AMAT is a Lower Level PAC 5 team. Your contention that AMAT is the “Big” Lancers and Superior despite having no recent League or Division success is your delusion not mine. Your weak line of crap just doesn’t hold up and no matter how badly you want to hide the fact, your “Big Lancers” can’t even carry their tiny poles…

    • understand

We miss your intelligent and insightful observations! Passing league starts in 90-120 days. All you have to do is show up and everyone will forget this travesty of a season. You will be able to take your place back on top of the SGV and you and Fred can remind us daily why you guys are the Greatest! Lets make a deal. If the Amat coaches can’t make some noise next year, they give everyone a refund and let all the supersophs go home and at least experience the playoffs as seniors in their own hometowns!!!! And lastly, all of the beautiful Amat people…and the ignorant ones like yourself, are welcome to come to our humble little abode and enjoy a playoff game if you are finished mourning! As quiet as it is kept, Jesus frequents Monrovia games. Thats why Maddox doesn’t run the score up.

      • Here’s JOHNNY, or Little Johnn

        could it be?????

      • Boycott lacerito

Ignorant? Come on now don’t get me started. And no thank you , I’ll pass on that playoff game I might get shot

        • observantcat

There are FAR more Guns and shootings in La puente than in Monrovia, just ask your local Police Dept. Maybe you should start frequenting that blog.

      • Boycott lacerito

And one more thing no way would we go back to our hometown bishop is where we belong. We don’t jump ship.

        • understand

Are we getting into our feelings? All I said was you can come catch a playoff game and you would be welcome! I understand what a step up Amat is for you and your neighborhood but you obviously have not spent anytime in Monrovia. Just come visit then judge the place. I say the same thing when people talk crazy about Amat. I ask the people,” First have you ever been there?” Second,” do you know the people?” Usually they have a misperception about the people and the place. They don’t know any Amat people and have never been to the school. I would like to respond to the jump ship comment with some charcoal. Thats right….charcoal. That is what they pump into your stomach if you OD on something. It works well on the kool-aid. If you were really down you would get an Amat tatoo on your forehead!!!! I always wondered about that scene in the Titanic when they said “Keep playing,Keep Playing” I am not in that band..(no disrespect to Amats band intended, they rock) Lastly i do enjoy sitting here throwing rocks at people in glass houses but it doesn’t mean i don’t love you all!

          • Boycott lacerito

So it seems to me you have two tattoos. It must be nice playing junior all Americans in your league… Like a wise man one said… Thee weakest league around. Great way to get your kids prepared for the next leval.

          • Give me a break

Next level? What are you smoking? Less then 3% of these kids will ever play again after their last high school football game. Not that I’m a Monrovia fan, but they seem to move more then their fair share onto the next level and I would bet that over the last 2 or 3 years they have put more kids into D1 programs then Amat. In fact, if it’s a D1 scholarship your looking for, Amat’s not the place to go. From what I hear Hags does very little to get his kids hooked up on D1 scholarships.

          • Valley Athletics

Your wrong . Hags does a lot . These are the players that got scholarships last year . Most got them after the season and not from what they did at camps , which is where the top players get noticed . Those top players can get them any highschool . It’s the ability to get the not so highly recruited players scholarships that impressed me about last year . Here is last years signees. Sal velasquez (U of Utah), Dj Daniels(oregon st.) Keanu Higgins (New Mexico ) , Joseph cook (Dartmouth ), mAtt Lopez (cal Lutheran ) , darren Andrews ( ucla)

          • understand

I have a total of 9 tatoos, thank you. No color and not designed with any kind of fashion in mind. Simple marks from a different time and place. I promised i would not use big words so i am going to try and keep this simple. When you deal with a large number of young people you tend to have multiple teams because they grow up and go to different high schools. Being that all of my kids went or are currently Hawks we have many playoff teams we are currently following…Monrovia,Duarte,Maranatha,Amemany, Matre Dei. Those are kids that come to mind that i speak with or see all the time. There are others at CO,West Co,Phs,Bell Gardens, Arcadia, Loyola and one superstar runningback at BaldwinPark that just ran for 200+ yards against Arroyo!!! There are many more but i think you get the point. The word of the day is BLATHER. Thats when you argue points that make no sense and make you appear a lot less intelligent than you actually are! Getting my kids “ready for the next level”. If you are insinuating choosing one school over another, based on the schools ability to produce a d1 scholarship for the said student athlete, then you are misinformed. That is a matter of genetics, film, timing and the schools need. None of which really depend on the school you go to or who you play. Your coaches can sink you though by not supporting you when scouts do ask about you.
It is technically not a high school coaches job to get you to the next level. His job is to win now with what he has. I dont know if they have the time to focus on your future in that sense. My effort is focused on my kids academics. A 4.0+ gpa puts the recruiting process in my sons and daughters hands, not the subjective opinion of a third party coach, scout, or anyone else. Football is great but it is not the end-all. We are all one injury away from the final chapter…then what?
Monrovia has a 68 million dollar math and science academy. My property tax pays for that. They have academic resources for gifted kids and the not so gifted being that i have both. This is what is best for all of them. Blind loyalty is an admirable quality in a dog but i don’t know if it is the best way to educate a child. Come to a game then show me the difference between D1 and D12. There are currently more juniors with d1 offers at monrovia than the entire senior class(football) at Bishop. Thats not counting the seniors. That d12 running back ran for 200+ yards on Amat with no o-line! LaCanada was physically bigger than Amat. There are several d12 schools that are faster than Amat. The San Marino coaches made quicker adjustments than Amats codinators made all year. What is the difference?????The difference is Resources and Execution. When you can bring in great coaches and compensate them that translates into more quality practice time. When you are three or four deep in every position that gives you a lot of options. The average d12 team has 40? kids on the sideline with JV dressed out. At the end of the day, and the Omnipotent Football Gods at Amat might not agree, Its a simple game not rocket science. Bishop Amat negates their advantages by not getting the best players on the field because they don’t compete daily. There is no reason to because if the Omnipotent Football Gods decide player 1 has more whatever than player 2 it is player 1 who gets the reps. They dont know how to let things play out on the field. They are so arrogant they can look at a player and tell you he is a 1-2-3. That didn’t pan out this year. You can’t say i am just a bitter parent because i am not. Mine all started and we had a great experience at Amat, it some of you i am worried about. Based on some of your statements it is obvious you have never stepped out of that Amat umberella and looked at all the good football around you. It doesn’t have to be one or the other. You are the Heavy Weight contender of the SGV. Don’t spend all your time blasting Maywether, Go beat up on the trinity league or other pac5 teams then come on the blogs and tell everyone about reality. So apologize to the Chef so you can get in the kitchen and make me a sandwich!!

          • AMAT 73

            understand,
I understand exactly what you are saying . But you do have to question a fan who refers to AMAT as ” bishop ” . There are a few newbies on here that do more harm then good to AMAT and their fans by their posts . What’s bad is that the blog usually throws all of us under their umbrella .

  • Valley Athletics

The south eAst division is very competitive this year . That la Serna vs DIamond bar game is going to be a great . The inland is going to come down to the same teams in Corona centenial and Vista murrieta again in the mid valley . Doesn’t look like anyone is near monrovias level .

  • saints Fan

Feel need to shout out about Oscar Palma, Gabrielino Place kicker. This kid is one of the BEST in the valley I have seen. Seen Vizcaino from Damien up close, this kid is probably only a couple yards away from him & Vizcaino is scholly guy to Wazu. Warm ups I was nervous, if game came down to FG, we were gonna lose. Was nailing them from 45+ in pregame, then BAM, end of game he nails 50 yard FG with a little room to spare. No way we were blocking it as his height is D1 college all the way. WOW. If he is not going somewhere it is a HUGE mistake, someone needs to be on this kid !!!
