Tribskin Pick’em: Only Tribune teams I have making it to Thansgiving practice are San Dimas and Arroyo

Aram Tolegian and I will go head-to-head picking football games throughout the season. He edged me out the past two seasons, but it’s not happening this year, not when we’re playing for a Slater’s 50-50 burger.

Aram Tolegian (20-12, last week); (175-70, season total)
Fred Robledo (23-9, last week); (178-67, season total)

11-8-13 SDIMAS15

Last Week: I picked up three games on Aram and helped my cause by taking Diamond Bar, Los Altos, Muir, all teams that Aram predicted their season’s would end on Friday. Aram has some catching up to do, but there are several more games this week for us to choose.

This week: When I made my Divisional predictions, I predicted La Serna-Muir in the Southeast finals, Monrovia-San Dimas in the Mid-Valley finals and Rancho Cucamonga, Corona Centennial in the Inland finals. All are still alive so I’ve got them all winning this week. Diamond Bar with Antonio Noodles Hull could give La Serna a scare, but that’s about it. Muir-Los Altos is a heavyweight match, but how can you not like Muir after beating La Mirada last week. One of the tough games to predict is Arroyo at Schurr, especially after how bad the Mission Valley looked in the Mid-Valley and with Arroyo rallying to beat Baldwin Park. I’ll still take Arroyo, but don’t feel as good about it as I did a week ago. San Dimas at San Marino looks dangerous on paper for the Saints, but the Saints are looking too good, and if they win, there is no doubt they’re going to the finals.

Call me crazy, but I’m going with Pomona this week over cleat. Oh, and on a side note..Walnut asked to get out of our preseason so we signed up Azusa.

    • observantcat

Wow Colt74, we finally agree on something in all the years on this blog. I think Pomona matches up pretty well at home against paraclete. If Pomona jumps out ahead in the first quarter and forces Paracletes QB to perform then the Red Devils game plan will prevail then it’s on to Monrovia stadium where Pomona will see all of their post season aspirations devoured into VVL status. But I do see the opportunity for some who may call it an upset to be very surprised at the speed matchup. Pomona 17 Paraclete 14.

      • GP AKA Green Machine

Paraclete executes as well as San Dimas. Triston Brown and Marlques Stoval provide the speed Paraclete needs to get past Pomona. I just don’t see it the Clete losing.

        • New York

As well as San Dimas? Not better?

          • GrimReaper

same disclaimer..at least for another couple of weeks.

            Right?

          • GP AKA Green Machine

S D always messes with a trick play or tries to Throw. I has cost them a few games.

        • GrimReaper

I just don’t see it the Clete losing

you forgot to add, ….at least for another week

      • Saint Parent

Speed match up? Everyone said that about Pomona vs Sd and what did speed get them…a running clock! Don’t look at Paracletes record. They played just as tough a preseason as SD. Power and execution will win out versus Speed and sloppy play. Yes I said sloppy. Their coach is on the sideline dancing around giving hand signals. You don’t think Paraclete sent someone to film their signs. They send people everywhere. They have film on everyone and everything. PHS better huddle and slow the game down because it will get ugly. Pomona has no serious run game. SD held them to under 100 yards total and the Spirtits are equally if not tougher. Cleat wins with a running clock in the 4th…count on it.

        • GrimReaper

          yep!

        • Nomoredrama

PHS coaches, players and fans were organized chaos. Coaches were lost, players were confused, and fans were out of control….standing at the railing, yelling negative stuff at the players and coaches from the first SD touchdown until the 3rd quarter, which is when I left cause I couldn’t take it any longer.

          • GP AKA Green Machine

lol….what happen to the ranch? What a bust…they one time the Trib ranks you all top 5…you crap on it….Ayala…remember that game…that’s who you really are. I had you all going deep. Boy was I wrong.

          • PantherPride

Until Coach decides to pull the plug on the know-nothing staff he surrounds himself with, DR will NEVER get past the first round of playoffs!

          • Nomoredrama

Good question….what happened? Too little, too late, and so sad, Dranch had the talent to go much farther than they did. I’m sure it’s not the first or the last time you will be wrong.

          • Nomoredrama

Well, I’m sure it wasn’t your first, and is definitely not your last time being wrong.

          • OuttaYourMindTrib

And y’all made fun of me for slamming Dirty Ranch, me telling you they were over rated and whatnot. Ayala was good enough for a single game to expose them for the frauds they were. That D-Lineman Tolegian or Robledo drooled all over that’s “got offers” was owned by a guy none of us even know the name of ALL NIGHT LONG!

If only Ayala were in their league. Perhaps then Ayala could make a playoff every couple of years or so. I don’t figure they would ever get past the 2nd round but it would share be nice to have more than a snowball’s chance every once in a while.

    • Valley Athletics

Walnut is scheduling diamond bar instead of Covina to keep rivalry going .

  • GrimReaper

Hope springs eternal as Fred picks Arroyo.

Was last week’s come from behind win over an “At Large” team a fluke and Arroyo will return to form, making Fred look good? Or was it a moment of revelation? Only time will tell (a couple of hours of time next Friday). This might be a good spot for Aram to pick Schurr (as in Sure they can–or Aram Hope’s they can) to get a contrarian win to get things closer on the season. But in the long view, of the Mid Valley, Arroyo v Montebello means nothing.

It does not take a Nostradamus to see
finals are going to be a rematch of Monrovia V San Dimas. Only it is not
going to be as close as it was in the pre season. It will end up, 50-14
with the running clock the winning bet. Rooting for Monrovia is a lot
like, rooting for the lions (WildCats) against the Christians (err the
    Saints) in the Roman Coliseum.

Just for fun I think Monrovia should try to win CIF with their JV-Sophomore team. Maybe to make it worse, they can just let the other team think they are in the game and switch to the first string at half time. It is not like they are going to lose.

Maybe CIF has missed a chance to make a new “Monrovia rule”. For each previous game with a running clock, the winning team in question must not play any starter (or if injured that starter’s replacement) for 3 minutes, with this rule being cumulative. Since Monrovia has had 7 straight running clock victories, that would mean that Monrovia would not get any of their first string players in until late in the first half after 21 minutes had expired. (for each non running clock win .. subtract 3 minutes from the cumulative running total)

Think how thrilled the Monrovia Sophomores/JV will be to win a CIF title!

    • New York

      Slow Monday?

      • GrimReaper

No I figured I could bait out a Green and White agitated response. I guess ObservantKat was busy.

But the Monrovia JV sophs are good, based on the Blair game outcome. Maybe they should get a chance?

        • New York

Seems more likely to get responses from people who will play against Monrovia. It is funny stuff. Monrovia is down this year, with all the rookies on the field at key positions. This is definitely a year that another team could get it done.

          • GrimReaper

If this is a “down year”, what happens in an “up year”? Yikes!

With apologies to Blake Heyworth and Ellis McCarthy, It appears to me that the 2013 version is significantly improved over 2012. The only difference is the D misses Frazier (who didn’t get the respect due, as he labored in the shadow of McCarthy)

But that is all opinion. You know your team better than I, so I defer to your statement.but..we will see what, we will see in the last two weeks.

    • SaintsR4real

      REALLY!!??

      • GrimReaper

        WHY NOT!!!???

  • RealTalk

Hey Fred I think you missed counted, cause Aram should be (21-11)… He may have lost those 3 SE division games but he picked it up somewhere else. I know because i tied with you…

    • Colt74

Aram forgot to pick a game a couple of weeks back.

Real Talk, wow… you;re REAL GOOD! I don’t know how you called it against AZUSA but you were right on that one. Question then, do you have Torrance playing in the finals and winning the CIF title? How in the world did AZUSA get paired up with Torrance. being AZUSA was the top seed in their league. What a CRUSHING blow that was for us. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK and good to see somebody calling it right!

  • Conq ’76

I agree with the sentiment about Muir beating LM, but on the other hand, how can you dismiss LA after proving they could “handle Paramount’s size”? :)

    • RealTalk

I think it’s Muirs time. Some of the best athelete’s in the league. Marco’s doesn’t run crazy on this team. They play tough, smart and hella speed.

      • Conq ’76

No doubt, Muir should be favored and should win, but that’s why they play the game! :0

    • LPAlum

      Conq ’76,

“Paramount size”, that program was a joke. Those kids were soft, and that is a direct reflection on the coaching. That team was loaded with speed and talent, They couldn’t throw the ball if their life depended on it. Didn’t see a player on that team that could take a hit, actually I did see one that little running back.LA played physical football and that team folded like a paper napkin.

      • Conq ’76

Well, I was alluding to the topic Fred brought up last week asking, in a headline, could “LA handle Paramount’s size”…

  • LA Dad

I’ve been to all the Los Altos games this year but I wont be able to make Muir, D&#(@. Oh well, I think has been improving every year under Ziola but with all the talk of the QB issues at LA, its their defense that scares me. At times, they can stop anybody but some times they dont make the simple tackles that turn into big plays that kill you. Good luck LA

    • Leo Tolstoy

Gee LA Dad with an attitude like it might be a blessing you can’t make the game. Stay home and if/when LA wins say you called it !

      • LA Dad

I would love to see LA win, no doubt. I state that “At times, they can stop …” but if you were at the D Ranch game and the Bonita game, it was missing tackles and not finishing plays that costs them those games. Muir comes with a lot of speed but again I repeat, if LA can tackle and finish hard, they can stop anybody!”

  • AMAT 73

Where are all the CO honks talking up their next game . Many were on here before the Yucaipa game and also blasting AMAT for not making the playoffs and other digs . I guess they are in the ” taking a long bus ride ” mode Big Lou spoke about . Pretty damn quiet in COville .

    • OuttaYourMindTrib

C-No knows they are going to be lucky to get a 1st down against the opponent’s 2nd Team.

They get beat by 35 minimum.

  • New York

I’d have to imagine everyone in Murrietta Valley is pretty scared of what is coming to town on Friday night. Their team has had a nice run, but that comes to an end Friday night when they face the Trib’s #1 team.
