Area powers Bishop Amat and Bonita could meet in Covina Girls Tournament finals this week

Bonita 50, Charter Oak 39: Bonita (5-0) won four games last week capped with a 63-60 win over tough Brea Olinda to win the Brea Olinda Ladycast Classic and its gearing up for a tournament later this month in Las Vegas, but Tuesday’s game against Charter Oak proved tough with Wheatley out with a headache.
Bonita struggled to victory over Charter Oak, getting 17 points from Smith and 14 from Ariana Abo. The Chargers and Bearcats were tied at half and it was a close third quarter before the Bearcats started pulling away.
Brooke Clementson and Erin Houston each scored 14 points for the Chargers.
Bonita will host Arroyo, a 40-26 winner over Arroyo, in Wednesday’s quarterfinals at South Hills at 6:30 p.m.
“There’s no excuses on our part, “ Bonita coach Darren Baumunk said. “But after last week’s Brea Olinda tournament we were kind of beat up. We had a physical game against Brea Saturday night and Nikki’s been sick, Kandyce is dinged up, and we have another out with a concussion. But we’ve got a lot of girls trying to do the best they can and it gives them a chance to get their (games) going.”
