When the Bishop Amat High School girls basketball team finds its rhythm, the Lancers are very difficult to beat.
They showed how tough Wednesday night.
Paulina Santana scored 13 points and Bishop Amat used a 31-5 blitz during a 10-minute stretch during the second and third quarters en route to a 55-25 victory over Muir in a Covina Tournament quarterfinal game at Covina High School.
The Lancers, also getting 10 points each from Janae Chamois and Jurhandi Molina, improved to 3-0. They will face El Rancho, which beat South Hills, 53-49, in Friday’s semifinals at 8 p.m. at Covina High School.
Muir, getting 13 points from Tierra Adams and nine from Chy’annea Hodges, slipped to 3-3.

Bishop Amat coach Richard Wiard: “We struggled in the first half. I can’t remember the last time when we didn’t make a (3-pointer) in the first half. We shot pretty bad. We’re a better shooting team than we showed in the first quarter. But I thought we were pretty good on defense the whole game, and that’s key for us. If we’re good on defense, we’re usually in every game.”
