Week 3 Rankings for Girls IMO

    1. Diamond Bar (5-1-2)- Not a good loss to Arcadia but recovered well with a win over Estancia

    2. South Hills (5-0-0)- 28 GF and 0 GA. Just scored 7 on SD.

    3. St. Lucy’s (4-3-3)- Tough loses but have played tough opponents

    4. Los Altos (3-1-1)- Only loss came to Montclair; but playing exceptional soccer

    5. Bishop Amat (3-3-0)- Always a second half of the season type of team

    6. Glendora (3-4-0)- Lost a close one to DB; Beat SD twice; overall good preseason

    7. Sierra Vista (5-1-0)- Beat Div 5 #1 Ranked La quinta; Should run through the Montview league again

    8. San Dimas (3-6-0)- Not a good way to end their pre season with a loss to SH 7-0

    9. Diamond Ranch (2-2-0)- Still waiting to see what this team has to offer

    10. Rosemead (4-0-0)- Havent really played anyone but still are undefeated

South Hills girls are the real deal as far as local soccer teams go. I saw them play Walnut and they are as speedy a team as you will find and they are very aggressive to the ball. I agree with Soccer Fan at putting them at #2 but I believe that they would give Diamond Bar a real run for there money.

I do have a correction in regards to the Walnut v South Hills game. First of all SH did not score 5 goals in the first half. The final score was 3-0 (2-0 at the half). Also the 1st goal of the game was an own goal by Walnut. The second goal was a beautiful goal by Alexis Marinero (SH) in the 20th minute. By the second half Walnuts coach just pulled her entire mid and back line except for Erin Harris who was later pulled in the 60th minute (knee). South Hills wasted no time in taking advantage of that and score a minute after she left the game.

SOUTH HILLS & UPLAND girls will be playing this weekend 12-21-13 at the Walnut girls NUTCRACKER SOCCER CLASSICS.

Problem with South Hills is the Sierra, where they will have a hard time making the playoffs with Chino Hills, Claremont and St. Lucy’s. South Hills hasn’t made the playoffs since switching to the Sierra. But I agree, as far as the Valley, they’re a top four team. I would leave them behind Bishop Amat, St. Lucy’s and Diamond Bar, all of whom have played a MUCH more difficult schedule. But hey, 28 goals for and 0 against are nothing to sneeze at. If there were in D-6 with San Dimas and Sierra Vista, they probably win the Division. But in D-2, they need to work just to make the playoffs.

I totally agree that SH is in difficult position to make the playoffs but SD and SV are definitely no push overs either. SD will beat covina by the same or even worst margin than SH did. SV is well coached and they are a contender year in and year out

        • FredJ

My point is, San Dimas and SV would be pushovers if they were in the Sierra or D-2. But because of division, they will have a shot to win a championship or go deep. Look, San Dimas has a losing record and has been blasted by Chino Hils and South Hills, yet they’re still ranked third in D-6. South Hills, meanwhile, undefeated and yet to be scored on can’t even crack the D-2 top ten. There is absolutely no comparison between league and division.

That might be the case in girls soccer, fred but i hope your not referring to your statement in general. I.E. boys soccer.

          • FredJ

That was strictly a girls soccer comment, in terms of boys, Sierra Vista can hang with anyone in the Valley.

          • sgv fan

No pun intended fred. Just wondering, what games you will be covering this week??

          • FredJ

Not sure, I don’t do a lot of soccer games in December because we have so many area tournament basketball games. I usually get out to a lot of soccer once league starts.

I wish there was a good local soccer tournament in town that started with 16 teams and played each day crowning a champion at the end of the week, like the area basketball teams, that would be fun.

The tournaments we have are two days, usually doubleheaders one Saturday and doubleheaders for the final — clearly fundraising tournaments with all the games in one day — too hard to cover or have fun with.

Someone needs to organize a tournament that would create buzz with a build-up to a title game.

          • JamesJ

Fred…This NEEDS to happen! I’ve been saying for years that the Trib needs to put together an SGV Soccer All-Star Game! But I like this idea even better! Why stop at 16 teams? Let’s get everyone on board and have a 32 Team tournament…two brackets (A Division and B Division). Host it the second week of December (Most schools have Final Exams this week and it would be tough to get them to commit to daily games). Can’t host too early because all the best players are still committed to their clubs. Get local businesses on board with sponsors…winning team gets Free Taco Nazo for a year? :)
What school would be best to host? Someone central to the valley…maybe West Covina? Boys play the same week at another central school (Baldwin Park? Basset?)
I’m excited just thinking about it Freddy! And you’re just the man to pull it off!

          • PITCHMAN

How about taking the SGV All Area Team this year and have them play another All Area Team like Inland Valley News or Pasadena Star. Have both a boys and a girls game on the same Friday night or Saturday day and that could be a nice event and a nice end of a season.

          • JamesJ

I like where your head’s at!

          • Wells

Only seniors can play in an all-star game. There are usually quite a few underclassmen on the all area team.

Using the tournament idea, many schools have the first two games of the tournament played at the home school rather than the hosting school. Once these games are played, two schools can host three games a night to finish the tournament.

It is a good idea to have it the second week of December. Finals are the third week of December. And it would give schools many games in a single week.

I would be willing to work on something like this.

          • FredJ

Schools with the size to pull it off are places like Bonita and San Dimas…

  • Soccer Fan

Got to see the CO girls put a whooping on SV today 5-1. Over heard SV parents talking about coach benched 4 starters. Either way not the same team i saw against La Quinta. The more i see Los Altos play the more i am impressed!! They will only get better!!

    • LA Futbol

LA had a very impressive win yesterday over an undefeated Division 1 Brea team! 6-1-2 record deserves some respect! When are the next rankings coming out Fred?
