Walnut takes Damien to the limit, but Jeremy Hemsley bails out the Spartans to take the Covina Boys Basketball tournament

Damien sneaks by Walnut with two-point victory to take Covina tourney title: Damien High School’s scheme was not to get the ball to Jeremy Hemsley and let him go one-on-one against Walnut. But in crunch time of the 60th annual Covina Christmas Tournament on Monday night, that’s exactly what the Spartans did. “We just needed a bucket,” Hemsley said. “I knew coach would give the ball to me or my teammates. Either they would have got the shot or I would have got the shot.”
The two-time tournament MVP scored eight of the Spartans’ final 11 points en route to Damien’s 60-58 victory over Walnut to win its third consecutive tournament title.
