Walnut slows hot Rowland in Hacienda League girls soccer opener, 3-1 Posted on January 8, 2014 by Fred Robledo MONDAY’S HACIENDA LEAGUE GIRLS SOCCER OPENER: It drove Janae Avila nuts to sit on the sideline and watch the Walnut High School girls soccer team last season. “It was horrible,” she recalled. “I hate subbing, so being out the whole season was just horrible. I hated watching. I’m just glad to be back now.” The senior had to sit out last season because of a torn anterior cruciate ligament and torn meniscus in her right knee. She suffered the injury in her final club game before the start of last season. On Tuesday and with her knee in a wrap, she had a redemption of sorts. Avila scored twice and the Mustangs opened Hacienda League play with a 3-1 victory over visiting Rowland.
