Former league rivals Northview and South Hills will square off on Thursday at Maverick Park in West Covina for an exhibition baseball game to support the RJ Legacy Foundation. Opening ceremonies are scheduled for 6 p.m.
The RJ game, the fourth since 2010, will feature new South Hills coach Darren Murphy, who previously coached at Northview and built the Vikings into one of the Valley’s top prorgrams, vs. Northview’s new coach Dan Roddy, a long-time assistant at South Hills.
Pre-game ceremonies include at tribute to RJ and late Alta Loma head coach and Bonita assistant coach Ted Persell, who died in December. Bishop Amat senior Scott Hurst, a member of the 2013 Team USA gold medal winning team, will throw out the first pitch. Food will be provided by Buckboard BBQ Covina at the concession stand and parking is free.
