Gladstone hangs on in the final seconds for a 46-45 victory over Laguna Hills in Wednesday’s Division 3A playoff. The Gladiators are an impressive 23-3, getting a team-high 13 points from Ben Reaves and 12 from inside bruiser Eddie Servin. We talked to both along with coach Gary Kilmer, as well as video of the final moments. Take a look

Bonita advances: Bonita knew San Gorgonio had a size advantage, so the Bearcats did the logical thing: they stayed outside.
Bonita jumped out to a 10-point lead after the first quarter and San Gorgonio never recovered, as Bonita pulled away late for a 63-43 victory in a CIF-SS Division 3AA first-round boys basketball game on Wednesday night.

Bishop Amat advances with defense: A young Bishop Amat boys basketball team overcame some early jitters and used a stifling defense to knock off Hawthorne 59-44 in a CIF-Southern Section Division 3A first-round game on Wednesday night.
The eighth-seeded Lancers will play the winner of the Pomona-Antelope Valley game at 7p.m. on Friday night at a site to be determined.

La Puente comes up short: The La Mirada High School boys basketball team hasn’t been out of the first round in the CIF-Southern Section playoffs in five years.
Wednesday night at La Mirada, the Matadores erased that memory and gave third-year coach Bryce Jones his first playoff win with a 65-41 victory in the first round of Division 3AA over La Puente.

SAN DIMAS 68, SOUTH EL MONTE 66

SOUTH EL MONTE >> If the CIF-Southern Section boys basketball playoffs are all about advancing and surviving, then San Dimas High School certainly fit the bill on Wednesday.
Ryan Campo scored a game-high 20 points and the Saints withstood a rally by host South El Monte to score a 68-66 victory over the Eagles in a Division 3A first-round game.
San Dimas, also getting 14 points from Elias Hernandez and 10 from Greyson McGee, improved to 12-13 and will host No. 2 seed St. Francis in the second round on Friday.
South El Monte, getting 18 points each from Eduardo Hernandez and Alex Ortiz, finished 13-8. The Eagles, who trailed as much as 24 points during the first half, had a chance to win it at the end, but Marcos Lopez’ 3-point attempt at the buzzer was tipped and fell short.

South El Monte coach Robert Burgess: “We didn’t have any time outs left, so I did’t have a chance to set anything up. I really hoped we would just take the ball to the basket, because we were only down two. He thought he was open and tried the 3-pointer.”

San Dimas’ Ryan Ocampo: “They came at us. We thought we had the game already in our hands, but they came back. We had to calm down, regroup and grind it out. We just had to come out with the win.”
