Could former Baldwin Park great and once UCLA interim coach Mike Johnson take over at Diamond Bar?

Could Mike Johnson, who starred at quarterback for Baldwin Park in the 1980s, was an offensive coordinator with the San Francisco 49ers and UCLA assistant coach with Rick Neuheisal, become the head coach at Diamond Bar? Johnson, who became the interim head coach at UCLA when Neuheisal was fired, apparently contacted Diamond Bar athletic director Kurt Davies about the position, Davies confirmed. Johnson, who was not retained by UCLA when Jim Mora was hired in 2012, still lives in the Bay area. The dilemma for Diamond Bar officials is that Johnson might not be interested in teaching, and would need to be compensated in other ways, probably through camps and other incentives, according to sources. What Diamond Bar needs to consider is do you hire a big-name like Johnson and run with it, or do you go another direction worrying that he could leave after a brief stay?

If there is no other coach that is better for the long run then you hire him . All the talent is in the class of 2015 , so this is the year diamond has to make a good run .

Why do you go just based off talent vs the fact that maybe the kids are capable of working their butts off?

You need to work hard with or without talent . Diamond bars talent is what is making diamond bar a better team . With out that talent they would just be a Like walnut .

I don’t see this as a good fit for DBar. First they wouldn’t be able to pay him the kind of money he would probably require. The district would never go for that. They need someone who is going to come in and clean up the mess and rehabilitate their image. I’m not saying that Johnson wouldn’t run a good program, but would he be there for the long haul.

I dont think one incident in one season ruins a schools reputation.DB has never had a reputation for onfield fighting to that nature. But like you, im thinking it wouldnt be a good fit either. I have heard the OC at St John Bosco has expressed interest.

Actually I wasn’t referring to that one incident. I was talking more along the lines of personal fouls, cheap shots, illegal recruiting, and out of control coaching staffs that contribute to and condone such behavior.
