State Baskeball Playoffs: Bonita does not make state playoffs, Keppel girls get in

bonitalossThe CIF-State boys and girls basketball pairings were released Sunday with Southern California Regional games scheduled this week.
The biggest surprise locally was that the Bonita girls basketball team, which lost to Long Beach Millikan 56-53 in the CIF-SS Division 1AA championship on Saturday, didn’t make the 16-team Southern California Regional Division II bracket.
Bonita coach Darren Baumunk was surprised, texting, “I don’t know why. I can’t figure it out.”
Bonita was on the Open Division bubble most of the season and finishes 29-3.
In the SoCal Division I boys, Chino Hills, which lost to Mater Dei in the CIF-SS Open Division final on Saturday, earned the top seed and will host Dorsey in the first round on Wednesday.
Chino Hills was not selected for the state Open Division.
In Division IV boys, No. 10 La Mirada and No.11 St. Francis were among the 16 teams in the SoCal bracket
St. Francis will be on the road against sixth-seed San Diego Kearney while La Canada hits the road to take on Fresno High. Both games are Wednesday
In SoCal Division V, Renaissance Academy and San Gabriel Academy were the top two seeds respectively, and both have bye’s to the second round on Saturday. Renaissance Academy will face the first-round winner between Trinity Classical and Capistrano Valley while San Gabriel Academy hosts the winner between Escondido Adventist and Desert Chapel.
In the SoCal Division I girls, Keppel got in despite losing back-to-back CIF-SS Open Division games.
Keppel was seeded ninth and will be on the road at eighth-seed San Marcos Mission HIlls on Wednesday.
In SoCAl Division III, No. 10 South Pasadena will visit Central Section’s No. 7 Sierra and La Canada, seeded ninth, will visit eighth-seed Eagle Rock. Both first round games are Wednesday.
Pasadena Poly earned the seventh seed in SoCal Division V and will host No. 10 Liberty Charter.
