Charter Oak softball tournament: Battle of Whittier as La Serna and St. Paul advance to finals; Glendora faces Claremont for third place

WEST COVINA — The softball teams from La Serna and St. Paul will meet Saturday for the second time this season after each won semifinal games Friday at the Charter Oak Tournament.
Paced by Dana De La Torre’s three-run home run in the first inning, La Serna posted a 4-3 victory over Claremont at Big League Dreams Park. And on an adjacent field at the same time, St. Paul overcame an early three-run deficit to beat Glendora 11-7.
The area rivals will play in the tournament final at 3 p.m. Saturday, while Claremont (4-4) and Glendora will meet in the third-place game at 1 p.m. La Serna and St. Paul met just over a week ago at the Brea Olinda Tournament, with the Swordsmen earning a 2-1 victory.
