Baseball Rankings: South Hills edges San Dimas and Damien for top spot

huskbase

Tribune Baseball Rankings
1. South Hills (5-1-1) – Acts and looks like the best team so far.
2. San Dimas (5-2) – Big win over rival Bonita, now faces Northview in Valle Vista opener.
3. Damien (5-2) — Trying to end final year in Sierra with a title.
4. Glendora (6-2) – Going to give them a pass for back-to-back losses to Walnut after starting 6-0.
5. Bishop Amat (3-4) — Three one-run losses and a two-run loss. Has played toughest schedule of all with solid pitching.
6. Diamond Bar (7-2) – Nothing strange about hot start, but how will it start league Tuesday against Bonita?
7. Bonita (4-3) — Get use to the fact this is probably a rebuild for Bearcats. Then again, a Bonita rebuild is probably a good year for anyone else.
8. Northview (4-2) – New Vikings coach Dan Roddy gets first big test vs. San Dimas
9. Sierra Vista (8-1) – Good coach with a solid record year in and year out. This year is no different. They host undefeated Gladstone (5-0) Tuesday.
10. Nogales (4-0-1) — Could be the final year of coaching legend John Romano.

South hills is straight up the best team in valley . Stock piling transfers helps a lot . Transfers from amat , upland and ayala . I was at the Glendora vs walnut game and they looked sub par . San Dimas is legit, I said it beginning of the year . Still need to see Damien play .Amat will getting better . Transfer sergio robles will improve them some in April .

    • Robert

Sergio Robles would need to be Mike Trout to help that team out.

    • Robert

South Hills got Amat transfers who could not make grades. Hard to wonder how they make grade over there ? hint hint

      • sgvsportsfan

They have good grades now!! because they are happy and not given a bunch of BS! Amat is not the team or program it once was! they are terrible have you also heard the term “you pay you play” they could of had a good team! for the next tow years? Nieto is a lazy coach that has no vision he is living in the past

  • ie baller

So Northview’s game against South Hills wasn’t a big test for coach Roddy? Walnut is 4-0 against your numbers 3/4 teams and doesn’t make the top ten?

    • FredJ

No, don’t put much stock in doubleheaders just before league games. Who knows who Bonita pitched. Rather look at what Walnut did in other games, which wasn’t so impressive

      • Valley Athletics

You could say the same about Glendora . They beat some bad teams except there league game a day before walnut game . After walnut game they had a 10 day rest so they didn’t have to rest pitchers . They had there best pitcher unavailable because he pitched the night before. There stud dj peters went 0-6 . Struck out about 4 times . Your correct though about walnut not being a top 10 team Because there losses .

        • FredJ

Could say same about Glendora, but Glendora has history in recent years to back up rankings. They have a track record of success already.

          • Valley Athletics

It’s a new season and no top team should ever lose 2 against a bottom dweller .

        • Guest

So Santiago, Ayala and Oak Hills are bad teams? and Glendora did not pitch their top 2 pitchers at all against walnut. They didn’t have a full squad playing both games. If you looked on twitter Glendora had a school function the night before after they played a league game (which is more important). Quit beating your chest.

    • Valley Athletics

Walnut hasn’t played Damien . They did look good against Glendora . Glendora has no excuse losing 2 games .

      • ie baller

Going off what was in the write up.

  • FredJ

Starting to believe Bishop Amat might be best by the end of the year. Look at the one-run losses, look at the schedule, look at the pitching.

    • Valley Athletics

It’s going to be hard for Amat this year . They got vista murrieta , Loyola, cypress and cathedral catholic from San Diego . Along with Serra in league .

      • sgvsportsfan

Not to mention the Boras Classic?

        • Valley Athletics

Yeah . They start with vista murrieta Saturday .

          • Robert

Amat has the most athletic players around to bad there bad baseball players. The definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over and expect a different result. The lack of preparation is now showing. They have 6 number 9 or 5 “o”clock hitters and only one number 9 spot in the lineup. The kids don’t play for Nieto because they all hate him. Ask anyone who’s seen him in action the’ll agree. its gonna be a long long year again.

    • sgvsportsfan

Ill believe when I see it!!!

    • Robert

Dude that team is horrible they lose one run games because they make so many errors. They would make those same errors against any team doesn’t matter who they play. The only reason the games are so close is the pitching. Another great job with the staff coach Beck. Another year of poor or no preparation by coach Nieto. I was told to many soccer tournaments during the year to spend time with his players getting them ready.

  • FredJ

BTW, very sad how few are entering stats on Maxpreps. San Gabriel Valley baseball is the worst, no wonder nobody outside our fishbowl knows our baseball players, and now it’s getting harder and harder for us to follow our own teams. More than half don’t even post rosters

    • TheeProdigalSon

Boo hoo Fred, how about pounding the pavement and doing your job as a reporter?

  • Sports watcher

Damien doesn’t have a chance against Shills and Chills. Damien hasn’t been able to do anything in years due to the lack of good coaching, leadership and the will to win. I hope to see big changes at Damien, starting with the coaching staff. Good luck boys!

    • sgvsportsfan

So true they are loaded with talent but they never win! whats up with that.

      • Sports watcher

What’s up is the AD and the baseball staff don’t know what it takes to make a good baseball program. First they need to clean house starting with the varsity coaching staff. They need a staff who wants to compete at the highest level possible in preseason. Second, they need to put the play the right guys in the right position. The errors are embarrassing to say the least. The stats are even worse. Talk about inflating stats or not recorded correctly. They complain about not getting mentioned in the paper. There is a reason for that. No one cares!

  • sgvsportsfan

South Hills is definitely the beast team in the valley! they have a few transfers from Amat that already are helping the team! Yes South Hills is loaded with talent for the next 3 years! Thanks Amat for letting some great players get away!!
