SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO — Sometimes it’s not how you finish, but how you start that can make the difference in a high school baseball game.
It certainly was the case for Glendora Thursday.
Vista Murrieta took advantage of five walks and an error during the first two innings to score a 4-1 victory over the Tartans in a Boras Classic semifinal game at JSerra Catholic School.
The Broncos, who were held to two hits by Glendora pitchers Ryan Beyer and Jake Nelson, improved to 10-3 and will face either Mater Dei or Temecula Valley for the championship at 6 p.m. on Saturday at Mater Dei. Glendora, getting a RBI double from Nick Kaye, slipped to 9-3. The Tartans will face the Mater Dei-Temecula Valley loser for third place at Mater Dei at 3 p.m.
Glendora coach Dan Henley: “They are a quality ball club. We struggled early with throwing strikes, so they had a lot of opportunities, a lot of base runners. I look at the score, I was pleased we had an opportunity (late). We’re finding ourselves. This (tournament) is a positive experience for us. But if we want to get better, we have to execute early on.”
