“Adrian Castro will be missed as a student and football player. He was a good young man with a bright future. He will always be remembered by the El Monte family.” — El Monte football coach Joel Sanchez
Adrian Castro, an El Monte High School senior who was on the bus that crashed in Orland Thursday was killed, an El Monte school official said.
Castro played on El Monte’s football team and was hoping to attend Humbolt State University, friends said.
Seniors Yohana Martinez and Lilianna Aldama said they were friends with Castro and that they observed a moment of silence for Castro after being told by teachers during their second period class that Castro died.
“Everybody was shocked. I just started crying,” Martinez said.
“He wanted to see his school and now he is gone,” Aldama said. “He just brought so much energy to people, he was always there for you, even if he didn’t know a person, he would talk to them.”
