LA PUENTE —
Serra High School, after losing to Bishop Amat on Tuesday, could not afford a setback in the rematch.
Marcus Wilson put those worries to rest on Wednesday.
The senior went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and turned away a Lancer rally in the seventh to give the visiting Cavaliers a 6-5 victory in a Del Rey League game.
Serra, also getting three hits from Denz’l Chapman and two hits and two RBIs from Adrian Morales, improved to 6-8 overall and 3-1 in league play. Morales had RBI singles in fifth and sixth for a 6-4 lead.
Christian Moya had two hits and Adryan Ramirez two RBIs for Amat, which slipped to 9-7 and 3-1. The Lancers had won six of their past seven after beginning the season 0-4.
Amat, after trailing 2-0, 4-1 and 6-4, looked like it might steal this one in the seventh. The Lancers loaded the bases with no outs following walks to Anthony Walters, Ramirez and Scott Hurst. But Wilson, who relieved Chapman after the first walk, struck out Michael Palos and got Sergio Robles to hit a sacrifice fly to left to cut it to 6-5.
Wilson then induced Bryan Mendez to hit into a force play at third to end it.

Bishop Amat’s Adryan Ramirez: “We couldn’t make plays we needed to make. There were some at-bats we couldn’t get that we should get. We didn’t execute like we did (the first game).”

Serra’s Marcus Wilson: “This was a very important win. We kind of backed down the first game, but we bounced back and were a really good team today. We did everything right at the right time. It was a good win.”
