Bonita rallies again, sweeps Walnut, 4-2

By John Honell
Bonita took a huge step towards a sixth consecutive Hacienda League title before moving to the new Palomares league next year with a 4-2 win over Walnut on Thursday afternoon.

The Bearcats (14-5, 5-1) got a two-out, bases-loaded single from sophomore Brandon Bradshaw in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a 2-2 tie and complete a two-game sweep of the Mustangs this week.

“It felt great to get that hit,” Bradshaw said. “If you’re going to be put in that position, you’ve gotta want it. To come through like that is big for my team. I do it for my teammates, it’s not for personal accolades. We’re all about each other.”

Bonita is that rare team which improves weekly as the season plays out. I attribute this to outstanding coaching day in and day out which is, kind of hard to find these day. When they start a season without the two or three ++ pitchers or a handful of all-league guys, count on John Knott and his staff to develop the talent he has into an outstanding group who plays well together.

The area has had some schools who have done pretty well in the past dozen years and the guys who ran ’em deserve a lot of credit whether as assemblers of talent, great big game managers, or guys like Knott and Dan Henley who teach, off and on the field, and seem to do pretty well year after year.

I guess they can take the fork out of the Bearcats that some put in them after some early season loses. Coach Knott has them going in the right direction with League Play about to finish up and the CIF Play Offs coming soon.
    Go Bearcats!
