Bonita baseball wins Hacienda League title in dramatic fashion, rallying from five runs down for 6-5 victory over Diamond Ranch; Diamond Bar second, West Covina gets third playoff spot

Bonita’s fifth come-from-behind win clinched the Hacienda League title in dramatic fashion with a 6-5 victory over Diamond Ranch in eight innings. Bonita (22-7, 10-2), the CIF-SS Division 3s second-ranked team, trailed 5-0 early and 5-3 in the seventh, but rallied to tie it and win in extra innings. Danny Gelalich’s RBI single scored Alex Gonzalez and Gelalich later scored on an error to tie the score, 5-5 in the seventh. Gonzalez’s walk-off RBI fly out brought in the game-winning run in the eighth inning to clinch the crown.
Diamond Bar (18-9, 9-3) clinched second with an 18-8 victory over Walnut (15-12, 6-6), dropping the Mustangs in a tie for third with West Covina (15-12, 6-6), who defeated Los Altos. Because West Covina swept Walnut, it earns the automatic third-place entry, leaving Walnut hoping for an at-large berth.
